Lightbulb need help w/ AT fd....

i am pretty rotary inclined, but need a little guidance...as my fd is not an automatic.

i met a guy here today and was trying to buy his 94 fd with only 50K on it, and almost had him convinced, but he is deciding to keep it......

it is an automatic, and he is having some rpm related issues with the tranny....

1. lumpy idle.....i can handle that...

2. when the car is put into gear, the rpm's ROCKET to 7500rpm......

3. see number 2.....

4. seenumber 3.....

...and so on....

can anyone point me in the right direction? could it be a tps or an auto tranny computer problem? i am going to look at it tomorrow, and need a little info before i go.....in the meantime, i am going to consult my manual...i know that the car has been sitting for a while, like 3 yrs, w/o consistent driving. i also know that because i test drove the same car back in 98 when i had my 300zx and my first fd.....

thanks ahead of time....

So you are saying that when you go from P or N to R, D, S, or L, that the car revs to 7500rpms? That is way above the stall speed. Is the car not going into gear and just letting tranny spin freely?

Did you check the tranny fluid level? There is a dipstick with an orange sticker on it between the firewall and the UIM.

the car only does it in a drive or reverse gear. if you are not pointed in teh direction that you need to be going, LOOK OUT....that is one helluva stall.....

it revs straight to 7.5K and just is ballz out.....

what controls the air flow , the cruse control -disconnect it , remove the cable---the aws ,disconnect and plug the hose at the back of the elbow--- the idle speed control, pull it off clean it test it and replace .

exactly, 7.5k rpm takes a lot of air. it's getting in there somehow

I don't think the AWS and ISC together could feed the engine enough air for 7.5krpm, but I've also never heard of a cruise control going haywire like this. Weird, I'm stumped.

Check to see if you can read an error code out of the ECU. It sounds to me it could be something as simple as a blown (really really badly...lol) sensor.
