need help please

ok peeps well i just got a bone stock 94 rx7. im new to being a rx7 owner but i did my research for about a year and know alot about the car but i have an issue.

okay everything on the car is all good except that i cant floor the car.

every time i floor it, the car picks up but then dies out. and it only happens when i try to drive it hard or push it. when its in daily commute it runs fine i don’t have a boost gauge but am getting one in the next week or so, thus i cant tell what my boost is at and if thats the problem but my guess is that it is. the secondary turbo is my guess. when i try the "official boost test" when it hits the 4500+ and the second turbo kicks in it occurs its like it switches to it then it dies off and it trys to pick up then dies off and it keeps doing that. so i take it its the secondary turbo I’ve tried to explain it the best i could feel free to ask me questions and ill respond to them and ill try to post a video shortly so you can see what i mean.

thanks

Reads like the 2nd turbo isn't engaging.

most common cause for the 92-95 versions to fail in that area are the vacum lines getting old, cracking & leaking vacum. The 1-way valves are also quite old now 7 can break too.

Have a rotary expert look into it & check the vacum circuit is holding under all rpm contidions

Before you can do anything, you need a boost gauge. Trying to fix a boost related issue without one is like pissing into the wind.

i had the same issue with the boost leak, my intercooler was jacked up. the fingers had come uncurled and the endcap popped off. sounds pretty crazy, but to check it i just took teh Ic out and stuck a vacuum cleaner hose in the open hoses.. to my suprise i got 6psi out of a piece of vacuum cleaner hose, at that point my friend couldnt hold it and it blasted off. hahaha.

check your vacuum lines that are on the Y-Pipe. when i would floor it and the 2nd turbo was supposed to kick in, i had 0psi and i studdered. i then checked the vacuum line (closest to the firewall) it had popped off. i replaced it and BAM!! perfect 10-8-10. I was like

Start with the easy stuff - remove and inspect ALL of the boost couplers (Y-pipe-to-crossover, crossover-to-IC, IC-to-elbow) for cracks, etc. Often holes can't be seen, no matter how thoroughly you look, unless you remove the couplers. Zero boost says to me, "MASSIVE boost leak."

well i started looking and i came up with this so far, not done inspecting all the pipes. however i have a crack in my crossover pipe that goes into the y-pipe i guess you could say. and that coupler is warped on one end here are some pics the. ill keep inspecting and see what i come up with.

by the way thanks to all of you for your help.

well i got a new crossover and new couplers and i also found out one of the intakes pipes had a rip in it so i replaced them with aluminum pipes and i still have no boost pressure could it be that i installed the boost gauge wrong??

i get vac pressure but no boost.

You need to get a seasoned rotary expert to assist you here. Find a friend or shop to help out. What we'll end up doing is just confusing the hell out of you and then something else may end up getting broken.

Then, after you witness some repair work that works you can start your research into the archives, a shop manual and hopefully some wrench time with other friends and FDs present.

If you cannot hook a simple boost gauge up to the proper intake nipple, then wrench down and ask for local help.

read my last post...

the stock intercooler end tanks (top and bottom plastic pieces) get warped from the heat and will pop off, its somewhat un-noticeable at first look. I just jammed a shop vac hose in replace of it and reved it once real quick. 7psi on a shop vac hose, not bad.

i would love to do that but i live in the center of California and the nearest rotary specialists are both 400 miles north and south of me so these forums are the closest things to rotary specialist i have and they've been doing a great job. better than any help i get from a shop around here.

so unless i decide to make a trip im going to be a forum crab hehe.

Is it still loosing power/dieing when you get to 0psi? Sounds like you are in limp mode from your description you have given.
