how to properly jack up your Fd

I searched all the FAQ guides and used the search, and couldn't find anything for 3rd gens, i found one for 2nd gens, they say jack the rear using the diff and the front using the front support. Is that the big metal piece behind the motor? cause its pretty far away to get a jack under there? I did it the wrong way before using the the joint just under the car, and from the sides

Yeah I always use those points, get some ramps to get more clearance. I usually use a pair of scissor jacks on the pinch weld until I can get my big jack underneath

Yea what Farkel said. I typically lift one side with a scissors jack then get a hydraulic jack under the front subframe, and the rear I lift off of the diff.

I always place a rag/towel between the scissor jack and the pinch welds, or jack stand and chassis/subframe etc. Just helps to reduce the any scraping. I cut some wood for the frames rails when using jack stands for good fitment. Depending on how long I have it on the jack stands and what I am doing, I will place them on the subframes, again using rags/wood etc.

Sorry don't have any pics next time I have it up I will snap a few and post them up.

I usually will drive up on a 2x4 to get clearance for the jack...

Never thought about using a towel to put on the jack stands. Hmm maybe I'll try that next time.

Hmm... I'm no expert but I don't think the control arms are an optimal place to have your jack stands

For example, in the rear, you should put it on the subframe instead

Ditto, control arms are not meant to be lift points.

Wow. That has to be the worst jack stand placement I have ever seen. Never lift or jack stand on any sprung part of the car. Especially a piece of aluminum. I hope you didnt go under that thing with it was up like that.

Just lift on the engine cradle up front, or the diff in the back. the jackstand on the cradle up front and the rear subframe in the rear.

You will probably want to get some mellow ramps, or pieces of wood to pull your front tires onto so you will have clearance to get the jack to the engine subframe.

+1

you can get to the front subframe (thing with holes in it) by going behind the front wheels.

the second gen guys apparently put the stands under there suspension components so they don't have irregular stress on them, thanks for informing me, i just changed it. So the pinch weld is ok, just not to jack up on?

and yes i don't know how to "properly" jack it up, own an FD, and a Domino's Pizza, go figure eh?

Thanks for the good info guys, i'll put all 4 jack stands under the pinch welds, and should be ok eh?

Buy a decent set of ramps and/or use the pinch welds along the rockers. Refer to page 5-19 of the OWNERS MANUAL.
The crossmember is strong enough, but even if you have a low-profile jack, IMO it's very easy to miss or slip and cause alot of damage. And putting stands underneath the 'I' arm? Damn.

Yeah because Mazda made reinforced areas in the pinch welds for fluff along with every other car manufacture out there. The car won't bend, the pinch won't bend. The only time I've seen a pinch weld that has been bent is where somebody place a jack in the wrong spot. Also if you are worrying about flaking off any coating use a few rags per jack stand. You can even get jack stand pinch weld adapters for a better fit. This is your life you are talking about when you are under the car, I don't find anything else under these cars that lock in a stand as well as a pinch weld and stop talking like you are above everyone else here, anybody that works on a street based car is fairly cookie cutter, its all been done, we all know it, we don't need a know it all telling us, **** I'm not even sure where that "ice burn" even came from.
