The Mazda Workshop manual has all the details. Bascially, you just remove stuff until you can get it out. You need to remove the intake hoses and the y-pipe first, and then unbolt the turbo unit from the manifold and finally remove the manifold.

You can definitely remove the turbos with the engine still in the bay...I did this when I went non-seq years ago. Well, actually Jim and Justin did most of the work while I watched.

There are some pics of this event on my site at:
http://www.micromanx.com/goble/rx7/p...eq/nonseq.html

You will need to remove your downpipe and the air intake piping to each turbo. I don't think you need to remove the UIM (but we did since we were also removing the rats nest).

I hope this is somewhat helpful for you. Good luck.

You pretty much just need to remove the skid plate, down-pipe, y-pipe, and all the intake hoses. The oil and coolant lines are all a pain to get to. After everything is disconnected and un-bolted the turbos are a really tight fit to get out so finding somebody else to pry the motor toward the drivers side can help alot. Have fun putting it back together, those oil lines are really something to get bolted back on.

I need to check mine to see if they are bad. Cause I'm having serious driving/boosting/power issues. Something came loose or something happened to where something screwed up casue it was driving fine the other day and then all of a sudden it just doesn't start, or drive very well, can barely go up the hill in 2nd gear and it only revs to 4-4500RPMS with no boost. maybe some or a little but not a whole lot.

Hey Bickmack000,

Just remember to use some type of lubricant such as WD-40, rustbusters, etc. on the nuts and bolts on the downpipe and turbos a night prior to uninstalling them. You can easily strip the studs from the turbos and exhaust manifold. It is a very tight squeeze to try to get the turbo off while still on the engine but it is possible.

I would check vacume lines before removing the turbos.

Pry the motor? Are you kidding me? They're not THAT tight. I was able to pull mine out with no problem once everything was removed.

RX7SpiritR: Calm down. Your problem is not bad turbos. Your car would be running much better than it is if it were the turbos.

They is very little room to work around in there. You have to slide them out very carefully. They are heavier than they look when you first pull them off so be careful The pic is there and I have a page, if you all email me I will send it to you, that shows just about everything that needs to be done in order to pull them off. I could name it all off now but I am too lazy
