Question

Did you release the wedge collar or unbolt the pressure plate from the flywheel?

Just unbolt the presure plate from the flywheel. or stick a prybar between the presure plate and throw out bearing and pry it off.

I noticed your sig.....I wouldnt recommend a j-spec to you, you're rolling the dice.

if you want a semi-local place who can port/build it for you, PM me. We have reasonable prices and offer a warranty.

Re: your problem, look up through the viewing window on the bottom pass side of the tranny bellhousing. use a long flatblade screwdriver to push the wedge collar flush with the pressure plate. then stick the blade between the throwout bearing and wedge collar and twist the screwdriver. The t/o bearing will release from the wedge collar and slide back.

unbolting it is a pain in the *** (i've done it unfortunately, lol), and no amount of prying will get the assembly to disengage.

Well you need a better inpact my friend if you think rotating the flywheel and undoing a few bolts is a pain. You need a little more arm muscle too then if you cannt pry the wedge collar off. It take me one smooth jerk and its off. Its just a little wire ring.
Not bashing just it seems easiest for me to unbolt the presure plate.

You're right, I only deadlift 515 pounds and hack squat over 700, I must be doing something wrong.....

On a serious note, I'm just a fan of doing things the right way. In this case, doing it the right way is pretty damn easy when you know how. Why go through the hassle of unbolting the pp from the flwyheel? and why risk damaging the wedge collar, which is over $50 new? Not bashing, I just like to do things.....the right way

True I have done both. It takes seconds to relase the wedge collar when you know how to do it. Actually I felt pretty stupid for unbolting the pressure plate the first time, once I knew how to release the collar. I repeat I felt stupid.

i tried that, but after two engine pulls, i find its best to just keep working at the tranny mounts and just leave everything together... i garuntee itll come out a HELL of a lot easier than spending an hour trying to get the tranny bolts out and everything
