You tried to pass smog with a midpipe and no air pump? Bwahahaha.

The easiest way for you to pass smog at this point is to bring some extra $20s to the smog place. Pick a small place in a "lower income" area of town....

Otherwise, you will need to put a cat and air pump back on and it may also require additional/special tuning of the power fc.

I think you will need more than $20 and I would go to a "high income area" those crooks are worse than anything. If you were in new texas I would tell you exactly where to go. But seriously, worst case put the stock cat and ecu to pass the test.

I had just ran into the same problem recently. Aside from putting back some of the stock parts, your going to have a hard time passing without some hookups.

Start practicing that sklick hand-shake.

Good luck man. You can try posting your city location and maybe someone in the same location will help.

Doubtful...

If you don't have the stock parts (or ones you can borrow), your best bet is to drive around until you find someone "willing" (read paid) to pass it.

A few years back, I went to have my car inspected right before winter. Well, it failed because of my brake pads. I knew they needed to be replaced, but I was waiting until after winter to take care of it since the car was going into storage. Well, I asked the guy "what would it take to pass it today?", he replied "$20". Done deal.

Granted, inspections aren't as strict here as they are in CA, but there is always someone looking for a few extra bucks.

Its hard enough to pass with a stock car. My uncle owns a shop, depending if its running rich or lean, for rich he ussally checks the timing, or he'll clamp the fuel pressure regulator shut, unplug the PCV valve and cover like about half way. while the car is doing its test as far as I can see, The computer will then pass. Most shop wont let u near ur car though when they're testing so I think its best to learn that slick handshake.
My buddy says, some guys will pass it if u just give them a ride in ur car.

Talk about restrictions, Cali only does emissions testing, not safety and brake inspections requiring an ugly windshield sticker renewal. Do they ding you for low tread and inoperative horns also?

Not the low tread, but lights (beater failed because of a burned out tail light), horn, e-brake.. They don't do emissions testing here, only visual (so a gutted cat would pass).
