need help! cooling questions??

well i have searched and searched but i can't find nothing that relates to my problem, too day from work i was on the highway and there was an accident so traffic started to slow down, and as i was pressing on the brake I can feel the car was still wanting to accelerate so i put the car in nutral an my rpm started fluctuate so i stepped on the gas and reved it up and seem to have made the fluctuating go away, but i still pulled over, Wen i was on the shoulder there was a knoking ( my guess boiling water )sound coming from the over flow tank and you can feel the poping sound if you were to put youre hand on the intercooler, my gauge read normal did not over heat or nothing well my question is why would this happened and if there any kind of relation between the fluctuation of the rps to the knoking sound of the over flow tank. ????? one thing i know about rx7's is that there are really sensative to over heating so any help would be really helpfull

you boiled your coolant. the engine does not liek to run when it is that hot. if your rpm's still fluctuate after your car cools down then its not related to the overheating and would most likely be a tps or vacuum issue. if it stops fluctuating then its from your engine overheating.t he moral of this story is dont drive your rx7 in traffic.

have you recently changed the coolant? are you still running the stock radiator caps. i doubt you boiled the fluid, just the cooling system presurisingand therefore overflowing

do you have an aftermarket gauge? the stock gauge only reads 3 things: cool, normal,or overheating time to buy a new motor.

what i meant is if you changed the coolant you may still have air in the system which will cause your problems. also replace the radiator caps with mazda items as other brands often leak
