Need Help!! broken wheel lock

I was trying to loosen my rim lock when it snapped in half. I was wondering if anyone knew how I could remove the leftover half of the rim lock off of the wheel stud. My car is not mobile at the moment either, so I'm looking for a fix that I can do on my own that wouldnt require shop equipment. Please help. Thanks.

OH damn. Never heard of this one. A trick we used to use for stripped wheel locks but you need to get a GOOD deep socket like Snap On.

Get a socket that fits over the stud and barely over the rest of the lock. Hammer it on so the remainder of the lock gets stuck in the socket and then unscrew. Hopefully it will work.

oh oh, well what you could do is to drill it out. one hint i have heard is to get a chisle and make a notch in the screw and tap it out backwards with a screwdrive and a hammer (u gotta go slow but i think it works.) last try is to get some superglue and glue something to it and unscrew it after it drys.

oh yeah did i forget to mention soak the nut in wd-40 or liquid wrench for a while before you start and dry the top off later when u start.

Use an EZ-Out. Get a big one, drill the proper size hole in the remainder of your lock, don't go so deep that you hit the stud. Then drive the EZ-Out in and unscrew the lock.

There is a tool that Snap-On has that is an easy-out for this specific situation. It's designed for stripped nuts and wheel locks. It is made of hardened steel and you pound it on over top the existing nut. You need to make sure it is on tight and it will "bite" into the nut. You need an impact wrench (good one) and it will spin off. It is swirled on the inside to continue to bite in as the impact rotates the direction of off. I had to use a die grinder and tape the wheel up and carefully grind some flat spots onto the round lock so that the tool had a flat surface to bite against. One side came off very easy, the other side was a bit difficult, but eventually came off. I did not have a good impact wrench to use.

I had one experience with wheel locks. I had lost my wheel lock key and needed to take my wheels off to do a brake job. I brought my car over to D2 in Alhambra and they used some sort of Craftsmen tool to break the wheel locks off my car with out breaking the stud. I have NO idea how they did it, but it didn't dent or scratch my rim and took 15 minutes. i was happy. I gave them 80 out of my great happiness =(

I brought mine to America's Tire (or Discount Tire depending on where you live). After showing them proof that I actually owned the car, they broke it right off for me.... and just like Teddy said, without breaking the stud... wasn't horribly expensive, either.

Did it split in half right down the middle or in half leaving a ring of lock still on the stud. Many companies makes a set of taper walled deep sockets that you pound over the wheel lock then use a wrench to back it off as if was a normal wheel nut. Can you grab what's left with a good pair of vice grips?

I have a friend that just hammered on a socket that was a little smaller than the wheel lock. He got it off pretty easily.

damn dude that sucks... when u finally get the lug to pull off you should probably re-dye the stud to make sure the next lug you put on doesnt get stuck from crossthreading. call me up or drop by my place this weekend when u come up. u guys still going snowboarding?
