Need to beat Supra TT

My friend has a 98 Supra TT. It has HKS exhaust, downpipe, intake, boost gauge, boost controller, and pulleys. Now my question is what exactly could I do to my RX7 to beat him. Not at the track just on the street. I think on the street I can kick his *** just for the simple fact I am a thousand pounds lighter. What do you guys think? Thanks

I know I can beat him off the line. Supras suck off the line when they are stick, Plus he sucks at lauching. I am worried about top end and from a roll. How much money performance wise would it cost to beat him? My RX7 is stock.

I know from experience...

My roomate has about the same setup with also a 98TT. It's gonna take a lot of mods to keep up in the top end. From the start I usually can get ahead until 3rd gear. Then he starts pulling like a madman and all I see is his tailights. My mods are (Full 3" exhaust, Pettit ECU, 4.3 diff., pulleys, 275s in the rear, and such). Good luck! maybe a single turbo is what u need?

I agree with Flexer with the exception of boost. You'll blow your engine with 16-18lbs of boost, not to mention your turbos. All of my friends have Supras. Most of which are BPU'ed. If you want to beat him, you'll need all the "bolt ons" an ecu uprade, and fuel upgrade. Read my mod list. That is what you'll need to beat a BPU Supra.

I,ve only beat a couple modded Supras at the 1000ft track. They are just to damm fast after about second gear. I'm working my way up to 400hp, but have a ways to go. One other thing you need to think about is your suspension (you need a drag launch kit). Mine has horrible wheel hop and it costs me at least a second. It generally takes about 350 rwhp to beat a 400rwhp supra (equal drivers). Good luck.

You can run 16psi if you have a good aftermarket ECU (tuned well) and a front mount intercooler

I agree though, take him on a road with some tight corners Lots of them

good luck, you'll need it...or about $8000 in mods.

i wouldn't sweat losing to a Supra...its no different from losing to a Chevelle or something. They are great at dragging and not much else.

I think that's a little harsh.

it all depends on how much boost he is running. Tell him to keep it at stock boost, and then race..

Yeah, it was a little harsh. But seriously, I think most Supra owners would be frank with you and concede so. Its a solid GT car that excels at drag racing. It is what it does best and is overwhelmingly the duty of choice for those cars.

with 14psi and a good FMIC along with the mods listed above you could run 11's.

This may sound stupid, but I am new to these cars. What is the pfc? Is that the fuel cut defenser? And what is the FMIC, I am thinking that is the fuel management system. You all are a huge help and within a year I will make you all proud.

the PFC is short for Apexi Power FC, one of the more popular fuel computers for a 3rd gen.

FMIC = Front Mount Intercooler.
SMIC = Stock Mount Intercooler

Do you know what he runs at the track??? That would be a big help as its easier to tell you "get these mods for this time slip"

If you want to run a Supra on the highway do NOT change your gears unless you get some gears from a auto or something. If you step up to 4.3 it will hurt you highway. If you step down to whats in the automatic 7's it will help your highway (but slightly hurt you bottom end)

All cars are set up for a certain type of racing and what makes a Supra so good on the highway is its gearing. Its running a 6 speed thats great for the highway!!!

In my sig I've got intake, full exhaust and a Power FC with the base (untuned) maps. I run a 12.3 with that set up and a set of Nittos. If $$ is a concern you can buy all that stuf used and get a used Pettit ecu instead of the Power FC....total of about $1000 Then get 2 more used wheels and a set of drag radial and you'll be up to $1500 total and running 12.3

If 12.3 isnt enough then get a intercooler

Of course this is all assuming your motor is strong

Later,
STEPHEN

Yeah, it's not as if Supras can turn corners...

More accurately, take him to a parking lot full of traffic cones and arbitrarily tight 130+ degree corners and if you can drive well, you'll win, because a 600 lb. weight difference is difficult to compensate for on a corner where you have to break your forward momentum and change direction quickly.

Well I think that I can beat him because he absolutely sucks at driving. With all that stuff I listed that he has on his car he only ran a 13.0. I drove my girlfriends CLK 55 AMG and spanked him. All that stuff on his car I think that he should be mid to low 12's. So I think with with some basic bolt ons and new computer and fuel map I should take him, atleast at the track. Cause on the highway any moran can pin it to the floor and change one gear. That is where the intercooler would come in for me, right? He is most likely getting a Single turbo upgrade which would be better for me with all that lag I think I would kill him until 80 or 90 mph and by that time it would be too late. What do you guys think?

Oh yeah one more thing. Another reason for getting the RX7. The only car that has ever beat me while driving my girlfriends CLK55AMG was an RX7. My good friend has one and I have always loved it. I knew the RX7 was fast but damn. We are all out one night and I figure I am driving a 350 hp $90,000.00 car I can talk some **** to him, so I did. We raced from a light, and because he couldn't hook up I spanked him. Feeling pretty good right now he pulls up next to me and said lets go from a roll. My dumbass not knowing the RX7 capabillity said whatever. That was the first and last time I will ever do that again. He has about 3k in mods but still his $16,00.00 car spanked a 90,000.00 car. That night I decided to get myself an FD.

You can always unhook his turbo to intercooler coupling then you can take him with your stock FD by quite a bit no matter how much boost he is running. But if want to spend money they you have to do what those guys said.

Marshall is right about that!!!

Oh and by the way, what car are you driving at the moment Jim? Was it a Supra or am I mistaken?

You might want to look at your friend's trap speed in that Supra, if he's running street tires he will run a full second quicker just by running drag radials... Better keep adding the mods to your FD to keep up with the Supras...

Better take that twisty road suggestion!

Yep, it's a Supra. 1.6 Bar worth of daily-driven terror.

He has 10's in the back, and they are street tires. But I think that his 13 flat with all those mods proves he sucks at driving, so I think that I will be able to take him.
