Need Advice Baaaadddddd!

I have posted a couple of times on this forum asking you guys what I should do. I am 22 in college and selling my Acura CL for a 93 touring FD with a fresh vintage red paintjob, 56,000 miles and it is bone stock in mint condition. Well everyone told me to do it and I did it and I have a deposit on the car right now. My worry is that I feel like everyone that is on this sight is older and is loaded with money. I am in college and after I buy the car I will get a warranty and I will have about $1,500 after that. Is it just me or am I dumb for selling my dependable Acura for the FD. I mean I love them more than anything but everyone seems to say that they are just one big money pit, is this alway's true? All I want to put on it is intake, exhaust, wheels and body kit, nothing rediculous. With just these few mods is this a car that won't be braking down on me every other week? I really appreciate all that you guys have helped me. I am almost there just need some final words of wisdom.
P.S I almost want to get and have it work besutifully just so that people with their supras and civics will have something else to say about RX-7's other than you konw it will blow up right. God I am so tired of hearing that, I think they are just scared of them.

Dang...first thing you need to do is calm down :p

I'm 22 also, but im out of college and just working full time. It's not much of a money pit if you're gonna be keeping it to near stock trim. This may be disheartening, but I've had mine for 4 months and have gotten close to the 3k mark in parts already on it. No major repairs yet, just a lot of preventative maintenance, performance mods and tons of oil/filter changes.

Use your 1500 on an AST, new radiator, silicone hoses, and a boost gauge.

A'pexi GT Exhaust

put off getting a body kit and rims

do some of the reliability mods

if it's not leaking fluids and the compression is ok then you can move on, dl the manual (i forgot the post) and learn all the maintanance procedures

1.boost gauge
2.downpipe-good idea
3.temp gauge
4.check your vacuum hose, and if they look brittle replace them with silicone

dailey drive at this stage and save cash for ecu

from there it's up to you,

Re: Need Advice Baaaadddddd!

Are you stupid or what???

You said you have 22 and in college. Don't buy this car!!!!!
I have a 1995 touring with 35.000 KM on it. I love the car
to hell and it is reliable if you maintain it the right way.

Don't take me wrong, the car is incredible in corner
and fast as hell but I have 28 with plenty of money
to put on the car. You will have to add 2-3k in reliability
mods if you want the car to be reliable. Also gaz millage
is......damn Crap!!!!

Buy it if your parents are giving you the money. If no, stay
with your Acura CL Big time!!

Also 56K miles is a lot for a rotary. If you go for it
double check the engine compression and turbo condition.

Serge

alright......

well how bout this....
i make $400 a month.....which is all spending money since school/books/housing/academy food is all paid for.

so im pretty sure im much poorer than you....
the car is NOT a money pit if you take care of it and you know how to save your money for those times of need

i get a $20k+ interest free (until i graduate) loan which im using to pay off the car and invest. probably do some more mods too.....:p

HOWEVER...i dont have to use the car for transpo to and from school.....just for recreational travel on the weekends (less miles = less gas $$) and my mods are mostly reliability based.

just keep your priorites straight and learn all you can about the car......youll be FINE!

and hell, if it gets too much for you financially, SELL IT.

at least try it out and see if you can do it or if the time and money spent on it is worth it to you or not.

I almost forgot about gas expenses...i'm using mine as a daily driver (not for long tho) and put on about 50 miles every day. Costs about 5 dollars per day in gas expenses...= 25 bucks a week = 100 dollars a month just to get to and from work. Anything outside of that costs more. She eats gas like it's going out of style.

I'd hold off on the body kit too...but thats just my personal preference... i prefer to be a sleeper :p

Give the 7 a try, and if you dont like it or cant handle it, sell it to someone who will. Also, be very careful of your 7 if you're gonna be bringing it to school. There's a lot of haters out there who'll fock with your car, just because it's nice. I'm waiting for the day when someone tries to step on my exhaust since its a huge single tip

Here's What I'd Do

1) Buy the car.
2) Take a few hundred of the 1200 you have and buy a beater to drive at school. Like and old Honda or something that is reliable and gets good milage.
3) Keep the FD at home or something so it doesn't get full of dents, scratches, or just F-'d with.
4) Drive it on the weekends
5) Use the other money to do reliability mods first.

I'm 19 and thats what I'm doing except I didnt have to buy the beater (69' Bug) This way the FD stays looking nice and I dont have to worry about things happening to it parked on campus all the time.

BTW The FD will feel like ROCKET when driving it after driving a slow car all the time.

Well I bought mine when I had a job but then I went back to school, had no money and it was my only car to use for driving to school. I had a little savings but not much. I'm happy to say I made it through school. My advice is watch your money. Keep at least 2K at all times for repairs. Don't bother with a body kit just yet. Have you priced them after painting?? If not you better because it's expensive. However if you watch your money just as I did you should be ok. Watching your money means planning. Look at insurence, gas and get the car checked before you buy.

I forgot to mention that my insurance is only $116 a month and I make enough part time to afford about 120.00 a month in gas. I don't plan on doing body kit or anything now, or for a while, I just want it to be stock and reliable as possible. Also I have a couple of hook ups with buying and fixing stuff. My boy owns a performance shop so I can get parts for pretty cheap. Plus since I will have a warranty I can claim stuff on the Reliablillity mod list right off the bat. So unless someone tells me that I am a complete idiot I am going to do it. Please someone tell me that I won't have to spend a **** load of money every month, and that their car has ran perfect

No not really my reliabillity mods just stuff that could go wrong like ast and vacum lines and stuff that needs to be repaired. Is that fraud? Cause the warranty covers electrical and engine and trans and air conditioning. Let me know if it is cause I won't do it, I don't want to rip them off or anything. Thanks

Before i type this let me knock on some wood!!!

I have NEVER had to fix anything on my car. But it was basically new when I got it. Its a 95, I bought it 18 months ago with 3,938 miles on it. Since I've put about 28000 more trouble free miles on it.

Here is the low down, if the car has good compression in the motor and coolant system, doesnt blow white or excessive blue smoke and has a good boost pattern its in good shape.

I would have all that checked, you might have to buy a $50 boost gauge and spend a little on the tests but IT WILL BE WORTH IT!!!! You'll know what your getting and have peice of mind and confidence in your car.

The maint will be more than your acura, you'll be changing plugs, fuel filter, trans and rear lub about once a year. You'll be changing oil about once a month and coolant about twice a year. You'll also be buying more fuel and chaning tires every 12-18 months. This is all based on a daily driver with about 15K miles a year. If you do the above test before buying the car it should be trouble free and only cost these maint expense.

The car is not a money pit if taken care of but there are a few things you can do to increase the life of a 7. I would change the fuel filter, spark plugs, all oils and coolant right away. Then pretty soon (like in a month or so) install a dp and do the fan mod.

This is a pretty accurate picture of my car but remember it all boils down to how good the maint was during those other 50K+ miles. Was the oil changed every 1500 or 4000???? When was the coolant changed???? What about the fuel filter???? These are all issues that can hurt the car and you wont know how good of shape its in unless you perform the tests.

I would also question the previous owner on these things.

Later,

yeah it's my car, but it's actually VR, I was playing around with photoshop and found white looks pretty cool I'll post more pics

Anyone think I am an idiot if I get it?
forget the people who discourage you in getting a 7, because once you're in the cockpit there is no turning back

there are plenty of people on this forum you can ask for advice and help you out

Well I got 12 days left to sell my car and get the FD before the guy gives me my deposit back and sells it. Nobody has told me not to get it so as long as I sell my car I am going to do it. Wish me luck. And if any of you know anyone who wants an Acura CL with 65,000 miles with lots of extras please let me know. The sooner I sell it the sooner there will be one more FD driver out there. Thanks for all the advice
