I have oil all over the back and bottom of my engine and also inside the bell housing of the gearbox. Does a leaky oil pan often lead to oil in the bell housing aswell, or is my problem likely to be rear main seal?

Cheers

As you are driving, the oil leaking from the oil pan is going to spray all over the under-carriage of the car. The best idea is to get everything cleaned up. Then, keep the car up on jackstands or a lift and start it. Look for oil leaking.

mahjik is correct. a leak from the oil pan will get everywhere under the car when it's driven. I had oil apparently coming from everywhere... turned out to be just an oil pan leak from the driver's side.

cleaned it up, added an oil pan brace and /knock-on-wood is oil leak free.
