My Street legal project

Ok guys, it's time for me to introduce my new car:

I bought that car at Okabe Jidosha. These guys are competing int the Japanese endurance championship. As they've been in this competition for years with FD3S they also provide an excellent service and knowledge about these cars (their FD finised 4th monday at the Motegi 24hours just behind their Z33).

This ca was originally a 2nd gen. (ni-gata) but it's been refresed with new parts.

Mazda RX-7 FD3S 2nd gen.

Modifications actuelles:

----- Dess up -----

Exterior:
RE-Amemiya front bumper N1
RE-Amemiya Side diffuser wet carbon
RE-Amemiya Super Canard (rear bumper) carbon fiber
RE-Amemiya GT3 Rear Spoiler carbon fiber
GT1 Motorsport Front lamps HID conversion kit (6000K)
Clear white side blinkers
Rear genuine kouki tail lamps
Side Mirrors (don't know the brand)
Attain intake duck (right head lamp)

Interior:
Full 6th gen. dashboard and heater control pannel
4th gen. meter assy
Spirit R floor carpet
6th gen. Cluster
Scarf plates (aluminium with gold "RX-7" mark")
RZ two seaters conversion
RE-Amemiya Airbag less carbon cover
Short shifter
Works Bell Steering wheel
RapfixII with short boss
Bride PROS Full bucket Seats
HPI Harness seat belts

----- Chassis -----

TEIN FLEX shock absorbers
Project u brake rotors (F & R)
Stainless brake hoses
Tires TOYO Proxes T1R
Racing Sparco 17" Wheels
Cusco alu/carbon front strut tower bar
Cusco carbon fiber rear tower strut bar

----- Engine -----
N1 Spec engine O/H
6th gen. Catalyzer
6th gen. solenoid bulb
6th gen. turbo piping (kouki)
6th gen. air pump
6th gen. radiator and radiator fan
Spirit R differential 4.1=>4.3
Rebuilt alternator
Spirit R Catalyzer
Blitz Nur Spec cat back
GReddy full auto timer
HKS SSQV II Blow off valve
GReddy SMIC
ARC Air intake
Cusco Oil Catch tank

...to be installed:

HKS Front pipe
Apexi High flow cat
Apexi Power FC + commander

I will let an Apexi licensed tuner perform a fin tune when everything is mounted an ready to go.

On the docks of Yaizu sea port:

Inside and some parts:

Rear tower bar

In order to mount my HPI seat belts I replaced the rear bar with a RE-Amemiya (the Cusco full carbon tower bar is for sale):

ARC induction box + GReddy piping:

BEFORE:
Off with the plastic!:

Piping installed:

Une surprise pas top, un peu de résidu de sablge dans le tube côté turbo. Il a fallu que je le nettoie comme il faut avant de le monter.

Et voila!:

The I changed again for a new SMIC:

Of course the piping cannot be used together with the new IC. So it's for sale as well:

It's like a new car. The new SMIC performs perfectly. The car is even faster and I just love it.

Next stage will be a front pipe and a high flow catalyzer. Then Power FC and full setting on the dyno.

To be continued...

nice car dude but with all that exterior stuff I would have thought that the engine bay would have been painted to match and more mods

I bought the car with this body kit. It's been painted when installed. As I don't really car about the style of my engine bay, I won't waste money in painting it. I know in the US, most of the jobs made on cars include nice visual jobs under the hood but In Japan we don't care that much I think. My pleasure is behind the steering wheel...

Ummm did you write the description of the car's modification yourself?

Sounds more like a dodgy Japanese translation.

N1 spec engine?

Indeed I did. I'm not a native English speaker and my English is far to be good. Sorry

But what's the point? Are you here just to correct me?

Looks like a very nice car buddy! Very nice condition, nice mods - very nice "base" car to start to modify...

I started out like you with an almost stock car and now mine is a road legal race car basically. It takes a lot of $$$ but the RX7 when done right is a VERY rewarding car! I push porsche GT3RS around the track all day in mine and its still on twin turbos
good luck with the project and congrats on a nice car!

Thanks. I agree. This is a fabulous car and I want to keep it ready for the japanses technical control. It should be OK despite the mods. I also want to learn this car before thinking about insane power so I'll do it step by step (my purse also prefers it this way ). I don not plan any single turbo conversion. I've seen most of the projects like this and although it gives a lot power, the car becomes harder to drive. There was a very interesting comparison between two RE-Amemiya tuned cars on the touge. One in single turbo configuration and on with stock turbines. The second one despite a lower power was faster. Okabe Jidosha's cars are full stock cars except for the chassis and the exhaust and they're incredibly fast...

I posted an offer in the appropriate section of the forum. I'd like 31000 JPY (+shipping) Send me a PM if you're interested. You can do it in french if you prefer, no problem for me.

Thanks for all your comments guys. Since I've bought this car it's just a lot of joy driving it.

Don't worry about it. Your English is much better than my Japanese or French. OK, my Japanese and French are non-existent. Most Americans haven't even mastered English, let alone any other language.

is that a Greddy SMIC? If so, you should be able to run the greddy piping kit with elbow....

Yes it is the GReddy IC and no the piping kit doesn't fit. I need another piping unfortunately, that's why I sell mine and will buy a different reference.

Sure,I will. I'll receive my Power FC shortly then I'll change my front pipe (you say down pipe I think) and the catalyzer. I'll also make some videos soon so you can hear the sound.

Actually, yes, it does fit with the Greddy SMIC...

Greddy wouldn't make that piping kit if it wouldn't work for their SMIC...

I'm sure you're a nice guy but you'd better not talk when you don't know. Don't you think I tried? The piping I have, if you'd read properly was the one for the stock Intercooler. So, NO it doesn't fit. If it did, I would have installed it... But thank you for your contribution anyway

There is actually another set with only two pipes (compression pipe + junction pipe from cp to IC) which will fit this SMIC. I also thought that the Trust IC would have the same position as the stock one but it doesn't. And I confess that It pissed me off enough already.

So guys, if someone want an aluminum piping for a STOCK intercooler, please let me know, mine is only one week old!

I do know, perhaps you should talk or PM 93silverbullet on this forum, or just look at his pictures of his car. http://rides.webshots.com/album/418822120BLybKV

You CAN use the Greddy SMIC with the Greddy piping kit. There is only ONE greddy piping kit and it works with both the stock intercooler and the upgradable Greddy SMIC.

Either way, your car looks nice. I'm trying to help you out by the way, not trash your car. I'm glad I could contribute.

Dude, I have both the piping set and the IC, I couldn't mount the aluminum piping, but with the stock compression tube it fits perfectly. There are actually 5 different references for aluminum pipings, mine is a "kouki" version. It's always easy to pretend things from behind a keyboard but no offense, you were not under the hood of my car. Once again you don't seem to know what you're talking about and I know I'm not so stupid that I couldn't fix my piping on the car.

To make it simple piping for kouki version are longer than for zenki version of the FD3S. The stock IC on the kouki models are a little more far from the engine than on the zenki's. Too bad for me I figured this only AFTER buying the IC that exists in only one version. That's why I offered to sell my stock IC together with the piping kit.

So now you'll maybe finally admit you didn't know better than the little noob I am?

Welcome to the world of JDM RX-7 buddy

Well, in AMERICA the piping kit works with the Greddy SMIC.

I'm not pretending anything; it's just how it works here. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Hope everything works out on your car.

No problem dude. I know it's not easy with all these references. As in America you only have zenki version (before 99) of the FD you may never encounter such problems.

My ca is a litlle bit special because originally it was a 93 version but the engine O/H and most of the components have been replaced by 99 spec parts. So every time I buy a new part I need to be careful. As you I was certain the SMIC will fit my piping but I realized there was a reason why GReddy Japan had anoher reference for kouki cars.

I called them a couple of days ago and they confirmed this.

So guys, if by any chance you own a 99 spec FD3S (imported or so), remember that GReddy USA maybe don't have all the references for this car.

I hope it might help some of you.

actually we only have ones prior to 95, I know there are a few differences between the 93-95 and the 96-99 but I don't know what they are.

You noticed it!

Actually the BOV comes in this position because I used the adapter for zenki version of the y-pipe instead of the kouki version although I have a 99+ spec y-pipe.

I noticed that the depression hose was compressed by the intake pipe and it slowly damaged it. In this position, there is no contact between thes two elements.

It was like this in the first place:

Then this:

And between you and me, I prefer the look this way. Moreover, if I want to plus the recirculation kit, it'll be even easier...
