no idea what caused it, i drove it to get smogged but failed CO, so i drove it home, parked it with the hood open so it would be cool once i come home to try to change out the o2 sensor and panel filter. got a call from the fire department saying my house is on fire while i was still at work. the fire stayed within the garage but the rx7 was just bought and i only put 1 way insurance on it since i was planning to do the master seal rebuild and wasn't planning on driving it for a few months. luckily nobody is hurt and it's all contained in the garage.

man, that's scary. I'm sorry to see that. I just tried to smog today but in the parking lot my add coolant light came on so I let it cool down, topped off and took it home and parked.
after seeing this I had to go back and re-read this thread https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati...-fires-976059/
I will for sure be checking everything listed.

I am so sorry.
That is terrible, and nobody should have to go through that. At least you're alive and the fire was contained mainly in the garage. It could have been worse, as bad as it is though.
Its dark here, but I got a flashlight, went outside right now to my FD and checked the FPD at the back of the engine with the fuel pump running. It isnt leaking. Looked for oil and coolant leaks, didnt find anything apart from the Y pipe coupler being oily damp.
I'm going to check again in the daylight tomorrow, because those pictures still scare the living hell out of me.

Thanks for all the kind supportive words again, The front end of the car is completely gone but it should be rebuildable or I might just part it out, fiancee doesn't want me in that car at all now which I don't blame her, I'm most likely going back to a lotus or bmw after everything is sorted out. I'll keep you guys updated and I want everybody to please regularly check their fuel lines, coolant and everything as I would not wish this upon anybody.

You may still be covered if the car was in your garage. If you have homeowner's insurance, it may cover it.
Good luck, i hope that this gets sorted for you and glad to hear no one was hurt.
Also i read that thread on the FD and engine fires. Definitely something every FD owner should read!

Start looking for harnesses. It's actually not that difficult to rebuild. mine caught on fire as well and toasted everything on the left side. Worst part was painting the engine bay. You will have to sand blast it and use some rust sealant for the crevices where you can't really spray or paint. But other than that its easy. If I put. How long I've worked on the car with out painting it I'd say about 40-60 hrs of work. That includes stripping, sanding, sandblasting, and installing stuff. Look for a front clip and you'll use almost everything but the harnesses and the hvac controls/system.
