Exclamation My poor Rx7 won't start...

Here's what happened.

Yesterday I did a peel out. Had the engine at about 3500 RPM when I popped the clutch and spun the tires a little bit. Immediately afterwards I noticed a very rough idle that was fluctuating at low RPM. The car would vibrate and bog down whenever I would give it gas and it would attempt to boost. It kept trying to die when it was at idle. I took it home immediately and let it sit for a while. I could start it but the idle was still very rough. This morning when I tried to start it, to take it to the shop, it wouldn't start.

Is it time for a new motor?

EDIT: Also, there was strong odor of gas whenever it would run. Seemed like it was running really rich. No check engine light ever came on either.

i hope 3500 rpm killed your motor....but without specifics its kind of hard to diagnose your problem. is the car turning over? if it is not, check the groung that goes to your fuse box, mine came loose on me one time and the car would not start. add specifics to your question..........you'll get better answers

If you wheel-hopped, all sorts of stuff may have popped loose. Wheel-hop is extremely bad for the driveline, esp. the diff. I doubt you killed the motor.

1. Check the MAP vacuum hose (the MAP sensor is the little rectangular box mtd to the driver's side firewall - says boost sensor). This often comes off and will cause the car to run like crap.

2. Check for flooding, fouled plugs caused by #1.

3. Check other vacuum lines.

4. Check connections, grounds, etc.

The car turns over just fine but it just will not run at all.

Is there some sort of guide I could look at in regards to vaccum hoses and such? I really don't know where to start checking.

Thanks for your replies!

DaveW -

The MAP vaccum hose was disconnected! Must have been that wheel hop that got me. I still can't get the car to start. Any ideas for what I should do to get it going again?

Thanks a lot, this board is awesome.

I know this might sound retarded but how would I unflood it without using the ATF method? I heard that procedure can damage motors.

pull the spark plugs and the EGI fuse, press accelerator to floor, crank over for about 15-20 seconds at a time. You will see fuel misting in the engine bay. Repeat this procedure until no more fuel mist. Replace plugs with new ones, replace EGI fuse, and start. Change oil afterwards.
