My ghetto-craptastic SBC-ID install

Sucks when you spend a few hours doing something and it only takes a few seconds to decide you hate it...

Oh well I guess it will do until I come up with another plan.

Why doesnt someone come up with a good DIN solution and sell it?

I think I'd pay up to $50 for it if it:

1) Looked good.
2) Provided a solid mount so that pressing buttons is easy.

3) (not necessary but good if it does..) Allowed for temporary removal of units so you could program them in your lap - the cords on these are plenty long for something like this.

It is a mazdaspeed. It matches the base black seats very well (carbon fiver look). It is very comfortable in the hand and is a screw on so it has no play. It does amplify the drive train noise though (with a short shifter and differtial brace) so if you a particular about that kind of stuff I wouldnt recommend it. Otherwise it is great.

Crap - you arent supposed to be able to see it! Now how am I going to be able to sleep knowing that people arent going to think "No stereo in that car, guess I'll head over to the neighbors and steal their stereo."

My whole theft protection program has been violated...

I put mine on the flip down panel box thing that came with R1s. I have a Touring but the previous owner put a new stereo in and added the box. Its kind of trick that it and the PowerMeter can fold down and allow access to the box still. BTW, can you do tell me how to hook up the PowerMeter to the ECU because mine is definitely reading all wrong right now.

Edit: Just saw the thread. Nevermind!

Have you considered buying a CD deck mounting kit and using the metal brackets that come with that (modified probably...) to mount the controller? Just a thought I came up with right now... not sure how feasible it is.

And I mean... ahhh... whats with the black panel below the SBC? It's just blank, like theres nothin there

you might try making it smooth by sanding down the plasic starting around 400grit and working up to around 1200 grit so its not real scratched looking. Then paint it with a nice black that matches better with the rest of the dash.
