My ghetto 99spec CAI!

From http://www.rx7.net.nz/newrx7.htm :

"The air cleaner now has its own scoop and no longer shares leftovers from the intercooler. The brake ducts have also been increased."

So,how can i do that to my 93 fd without having that terrible hole to the front of the 99 spec bumper?Well, you gonna need the 93 spec bumper,2 plastic drain pipes, the 99 plastic intake(which i was lucky to get it almost free),and lotsa free time!

So lets go.

Drain pipes:

93 intake vs 99

Ghetto wind tunnel testing "A"

Ghetto wind tunnel testing "B"

Drain pipes modified, installed and painted(yes i suck in polyester fabb):

Top view from inside(i wonder if Mazda relocated the airbag sensor and where):

Good to go:

That is just WAY cool! I've known about the '99 duct for some time, and that's just too slick!

Looked ghetto at the beginning, but the finished product is VERY clean. Kudos!

Very impressive.

I need to find a 99 rear-end wreck and steal ALL the 99 front end and intake parts, methinks.

That looks pretty good. Nice work, and well thought out. However, you still have the problem of the restriction where the "cover" connects to the airbox. That small opening will restrict your airflow quite a bit.

I think that combining my airbox mod with yours would provide the "ULTIMATE" modified stock airbox. Probably no way to test it, but I bet my modified box will outperform yours

Yes,i have to agree with you.I didn't get any increase in boost(maybe a 0.2psi).However i did this mostly to lower the intake temps, than to gain any boost!(but of cource any cheap way to gain boost is welcomed )

I agree that you should see a bit lower intake temps with your mod. People that have installed my mod have seen about 1 psi increase in boost. Let me know if you want one of my airbox kits. Cheap Bastard Motorsports does international shipping

Brilliant

This is brilliant! I want to do it, but duct that extra air into the intercooler. The heat exchange across the IC is proportional to the air mass flow through its core, and for larger core aftermarket intercoolers, I think that is limited by the intake cross section of the IC duct. This is a way to increase that intake cross section and get more air into the IC.
