Smile My first fd.......... need some help

Finally,, after owning a 1st gen and then a few second gens

The car is a 93, manual tranny with some mods like intercooler, aluminum radiator, strut bar, and an aftermaket ecu called peter farrel or something.
I could not find any info on the ecu and i was wondering if anyone has the tunning program?

The problem with the car is that it runs too rich and it fouls the plugs.
Also does any one know how to tell what model the car is? it doesnt have leather interior or sunroof.

by the way it did unfortunally belong to jackass so even with 76k it seems like it will need a rebuild

thanks

Search under PFS, Peter Farrel Supercars for info on the ECU. The Ecu is Older technology. There isn't even a subforum under the engine management section. You'll need the software and the cables to adjust the PFS computer as well as a wideband O2.

You may want to consider the Power FC by apexi.

Lots of info on these cars in the FAQ at the top of the 3rd Gen Specific page. You either have a base or an R1 model, assuming its original interior. R1's did NOT have cruise, and DO have a 2nd oil cooler in the passenger side duct on the bumper.

Welcome the the 3rd Gen arena. Get you wallet ready.

Before doing anything, get a compression test done on the car. This is something that should have happened before you paid for it, but you should do it now. That will give you an idea of the engine's health.

As for the model type, look in the front of the car and see if you have one or two oil coolers. While that's not completely "conclusive", it will give you idea. At the age these cars are now, you have no idea what was originally installed on the car when it was purchased verses what was added later. The second (passenger side) oil cooler was typically an R1 enhancement. However, many people have added an extra R1 oil cooler to non-R1/R2 cars over the years. To be honest, it doesn't really matter what model you have any more; you basically either have a sunroof or you don't.

+1

Which Peter Farrell ecu is it? He made at least 2 for the FD. They work with little handheld controllers and are piggybacks to the stock ECU. I'd suggest replacing it with a Power FC and Commander, as I've heard some bad things about the PFS(Peter Farrell Supercars) ECUs.

Here is an interior shot I have from an FD I was going to buy that had the PFS purple box in it.

Note the control pad for reading the display and programming the ECU, and also note the dial in the center console for quick changing between tune settings.

Good old Del Rio.....back in high school and college we used to go across the border from Del Rio to Acuna to party. It was a blast......well from what I remember that is...!! Anyhow congratulations on your new found adventure with your FD. I recommend you use the search function using the key words " RELIABILITY MODS" and read carefully. You mentioned having a rotary before, so you are some what ahead of the game. If you don't know already, owning a FD is a different ball game with little room for error. If you are ever in the San Anonio area or feel like heading over here let me know. There are a small handfull of FD and FC owners here in SA. Welcome to the FD world of tears and joy..!!!

Amen to 93FD3S..

Thanks for the feed, The car does have two oil coolers and it seems to be original.
Like some of u guys say it is hard to tell.
Also the ecu is not complete standalone because the stock ecu is still there hookedup. I removed it since i dont have the keypad. but now it backfires after 5psi and 50% throtle. Could it be posible that the secondary injectors have more flow than stock? what is the stock flow on the secondarys?

any ways i will get rid of the pfs ecu and if the secondary injectors are aftermaket i will probably trade for some stock ones.

My advise is simple. Take your car to Gotham Racing and have Steve Kan tune it. It's not that expensive and can literally save you thousands of dollars. Don't mess with the tuning yourself. Steve will get it running right and SAFE i.e., it should not blow up!

Yeah, I second that. Although you may know what you're doing in just about every other rotary aspect, tuning mistakes = apex seals. It sounds like it's running pig rich atm but it pays to be safe and thorough in tuning and ECU.

What makes you so sure that you have different/larger injectors? The PFS ECU wasn't the best a managing larger injectors. In fact, from what I remember it was a pretty good trick to get them to work with that ECU (i.e. you had to upgrade the primary and secondary injectors to keep a similar ratio as the stock injectors).
