My Car making weird sounds funny

i just got my fd and was wondering.... why my car starts up very loud and then level off pretty quiet... is it because of the warm up or is there something wrong with my car. and another thing... why is my car making a kind of blowing up(kind of like a misfire) sound when its idleing after starting up(but doesnt make that sound after driving it)... is it from the crappy exhaust that i have on from the previous owner or is there something wrong with the engine

well thnx for the advise

Do you mean the RPMs shoot up to 3K for maybe 30 seconds then settles down to normal idle upon startup? That's perfectly normal.

May want to check air/fuel mixture. What's your idle speed after warm up?

Most FD's with aftermarket exhaust make popping sounds. It shouldn't be too excessive. If it is, check to see how old your spark plugs are and check the grounding points to make sure they are clean.

Yeah, Mahjik is right -- I have a PFS exhaust (straight-thru) and I get quite a bit of backfire (popping).

Anyone notice this with the RB duals?

edit: What I mean is: is it any worse than stock?

My car is all stock but for down pipe and RB duals. I will typically get a nice loud pop when letting off the throttle when the car is cold. Remember the engine is set to run rich when cold to heat up the pre-cats. Obviously, if I let the throttle off slowly, it won't do this. When warm, I will get a light pop when blipping the throttle for downshifts or if I dump the throttle when putting in the clutch to stop at a stale yellow light (if that makes sense). I kinda like it myself...

If your engine is doing the race up to 3K rpm when you start it cold thing, just blip the throttle as soon as the engine starts up. This will defeat the 3K rpm rise, and settle down to about 1500 rpms or so, then drop gradually as it warms up.
