Do you have an aftermarket ecu? You should, esp with the MP. If so, maybe you can turn it down a bit with the ecu or idle screw.

My idle runs at about 1300 when i just first start it up.. but after awhile of hard driving or just driving, it goes down to about 750-800.. is that normal too? i played around with the screws by the throttle body it keeps at 1300 when i start it.. i know about the aws, so i don't think it would be that..

The car is SUPPOSED to idle at about 1500 while warming up. EVERY car does that, it's called fast idle. No, your car should be idling at about 750-800 rpm unless the engine's ported. BTW, mine sometimes idles at about 1000 rpm even when warmed up, but then at the next light or whatever is idling at 800 rpm. Actually, my Nissan does the same, so I'm not worried.

Yeah I have the same behavior, I asked John at Mazdatrix why it does that and he said sometimes the computer will hold the idle at 1k rpm after coming to a stop to keep the water pump moving a little faster, then it drops it down to 750-800. The high idle at startup is normal too.

Check your hoses, you could be missing one completely or it could be dissconnected. I had same problem, and came to find out that 2 hoses were off...

W/ the car completely warmed up the idle should be @900-1000 w/ the AC on.

How would porting affect the idle speed? More curiosity than anything else...

I'm curious about this too. I have a street port and I idle around 1100-1300. Unless I turn on my ac, then it drops to 1000. Is that normal?

A ported rotary is like a piston engine with a hairy cam. If you don't increase the idle speed it may stall.

And that about the ECU holding the idle at 1k to move the water around is b.s.. The car has a dashpot that slows the return of the throttle plates to closed for emmisions if its not adjusted right and the so called idle speed screw by the throttle cable is dicked around with the idle will be wrong and so will the idle mixture.

Kam - adjust your idle by the manual Section F-15. If you don't have a manual I have given the procedure on the forum a half dozen times, do a search under idle. LOL
