My Car
THE CAR MY COUSIN WAS TALKING ABOUT, IS MINE! I BOUGHT THIS CAR ABOUT A WEEK AGO, AND I'M TOO IMPATIENT TO DO STUFF, I HAVE BEEN WANTIN TO BUILD A CAR SINCE I WAS 14. THE FIRST TURBO IS GOING OUT. SO AS MY COUSIN SAID, WE WERE PLANNING ON PUTTING A SINGLE TURBO KIT ON IT. THE KIT IS FROM GREDDY, IT'S A T78, COMPLETE WITH INTAKE, WASTEGATE, DOWNPIPE, AND SOME OTHER GOODIES. I WANT TO MAKE THIS CAR AN ANIMAL. SO HERE IS MY PLAN. PUT ON THE NEW TURBO FROM GREDDY. THEN BUY A TUNING SYSTEM, PROBABLY APEXI. NEXT, A BOV, DON'T KNOW WHAT KIND. THEN, AIR FUEL, BOOST, AND WATER TEMP GAUGES. THEN LIKE YOU SAID, I WILL DO A BIG FRONT MOUNT INVERCOOLER. THEN SOME OTHER STUFF THAT WILL ULTIMATELY EQUAL MORE POWER! I AM MOSTLY LOOKING FOR OPINIONS ON THE BOOST. WE WERE GOING TO ORDER IT NEXT WEEK, THEN PUT IT ON AND RUN LOW BOOST, TO HAVE IT READY FOR THE OTHER STUFF, THEN CRANK IT UP AFTER THAT. TELL ME ALL OF YOUR INFO, I'M VERY INTERESTED IN LEARNING, AND I WANT THIS CAR DONE RIGHT AND TO BE FAST AS SHIAT! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE HELP!

I would start slow and work your way up to the single. Im not the most all knowing knowledge of the fd but I know that probably isnt very healthy for it. First thing I did was to switch out my radiator and ast tank to get the more reliable stuff first. I then have since gotten the downpipe and exhaust and intake. BPU stuff is now on the car waiting to save up for the computer and then to get it tuned. I would then go with the front mount and work my on down. But my only point is that my last mod is going to be the big single. You will be pushing so much power that the fd from what I here is starting to get very unreliable and a very fun car but not a fun daily driver. If you have a daily driver you have nothing to worry about. But I would get the car ready for the single first before you put it on have fun with the twins for now and then go single. Also I would definately get the fmic before the single because if you have the single on but not the fmic you cant even run at full boost until you have the fmic on the car. And if you are made of money you have nothing to worry about but if your not you need to realize that alot of the parts are very expensive and it takes a while to save up the cash but just food for thought good luck and I hope it all works out for you.
This is just my opinion and the plans for my car so you dont have to take my advice by any means.
Good Luck again.

First of all, QUIT SHOUTING.
Second of all, it sounds as if you have done a little research and are at least aware of some of the FD shortcomings. If you are going to go single be prepared to spend an *** load of cash, start locating rotary tuner shops in your area that can dyno tune, and above all else, rob a couple banks (did I mention it's gonna cost $$$)?
At any rate, if it all works out for you you will not be dissapointed, but like I said, don't expect to roll over in the morning and all of a sudden expect to see Cindy Crawford, it's not that easy.
Good luck.

you have a good list but you are starting backwards the turbo is the last thing you want to get. If replacing the turbos is getting to the piont that is a need you may want to consider a BNR kit at least you can run it with the stock everything else. TAKE YOUR TIME

You missed out a couple of small parts like the EMS and fuelling system.
I think you need to sort those out BEFORE doing any of the modifications that you say you are going to do.
I take it that whilst your building your little monster, it will be kept off the road? If its not, then please let me know and I will fly over to watch its first and ONLY trip out of the garage, as it wont last more than two minutes on the road.

Hey DLOSHCKE,
I buy a bunch of things from your cousin and tony and was talking to him about your car last time i was in there. I'm thinking the way you want to go might not be the best option unless you have large amounts of money 10-15k to put into the car and large amounts of knowledge about these cars. If you ever want to know what you should do or have me explain to you why just the turbo kit isnt enough we could meet at your cousin's shop and go from there.
If you have any question give me a call

i sense a blown engine in your future...
seriously, i just got one too and i plan on doing nothing to it till i figure out what i can do w/o blowing up the rebuilt motor i'm putting in. calm down a bit and think this through before you wind up with a dead car and spending all your money.

hmm... setember 6, 1986... you are my little brothers age. i would recommend opening up your ears to some of these guys before even driving your car stock, let alone adding one of the most impractical street turbos out there. unless you have lots of experience with the rotary and its quirky nature, which you will need in order to tune it correctly without blowing everything up, you will just **** up a perfectly good fd.
learn to drive first.

built my own engine
okay guys, i'm going to be taking bets on this thread, as that's all it's becoming useful for
i propose that he
a.) blows his motor
b.) already has engine issues
c.) puts another FD in the graveyard
anyone against me on this?

I undertsand your thought on when something breaks always upgrade with a new part. But the problems is with the rotarys, like some of the posts above say,you really want to do the reliablity mods and upgrade the cooling system befor adding power.More power (boost) more heat and the stock system is definately not efficent enough. motor will be next if not. If i was you i figure out why your primary turbo went out, to prevent other damge, and pic up some low milage stock twins off this forum, and it's always a snow ball effect. Why do you thick your primary turbo is out. It maybe just your pre cat clogged. That will rob alot of power. And a boost guage is the only way to find out, what's going on with your turbos.Good luck. JC whitney has boost guages for like $25. It's a start

gee, you don't read nearly as many "i bet he'll blow his engine" posts on non rx7 websites. damn him for not being a rotary expert just to keep it running, it's not his fault the motor is made out of balsa wood and rice.
but jesus WATCH THE CAPS. slow down, read the faqs -no one seems to. and don't bother getting to far ahead of your wallet. can you afford to put on a turbo, guages, ECU, radiator, intake, exhaust and IC and fuel components all at once? because you'll need all that by the time you want to change the turbo's.
