is my battery going dead??

i think my battery is going dead.... here is why:

1) my turbo timer doesnt always work anymore...i shut the car off, the turbo timer stays on - but it doesnt keep the motor running sometimes

2) when my car is just sitting there (with the radio off) if i tap the brakes, my gauges dim...

3) i just had to up my idle a little bit because the car kept reving up and down between 600 and 700 rpm after i come to a stop when i have been driving it for a little bit. (i mentioned this in another thread)

i think its the battery, but i dont want to run out and buy a new one if it could be something else.

How old is your battery? If you said 5 years or more replace it regardless. Batteries usualy dont last more than 5 years. So its a good thing to replace anyway.

Plus, batteries aren't that expensive. Hell, at most places, you get $10 back if you return your old battery to them...

I must say coming from tune up, drive-ability, fuel injection, electrical systems back round I have to chuckle at little you guys know about how cars operate. On the other hand I don't know near what you guys know about the Rx7. I am amazed however how much you know about the mods available for these cars. I surely would not mind sharing what I know in exchange for some tips setting up my 93. Its likely your battery is fine. Its biggest job is to turn the starter so its likely fine. The turbo timer seems to be in charge of things and I might look there first. Most any car will show a slight dimming of the lights when you depress the brake so I wouldn't be concerned. Tell us more about the problem.

I would put more money into either a wiring problem or the alternator.

yeah i say its the alternator cause the battery is only used when you need a spark to start the car or when your listening to the radio or whatever when the engine is turned off

I don't think it's a dead battery issue. I just dealt with a dead battery issue, and I didn't see the same issues that you are seeing.

I had a similar problem of hesitation and dimming of the dash lights when I hit the brake pedal a while back. It drove me nuts for months! I believe that I solved it by making my own grounding straps(I.e. re-grounding the negative battery terminal multiple times....)

try doing some diagonostic test on it!

turn the car on and take off the negative batterie!
if car dies then it's the alternator.
or just take the battery to a auto store and let them check it for you!
