Angry My 7 got hit!

Yeah, so my 7 got hit the other day. I'm pissed. Here's what happened.

I was driving home form the grocery store Sunday, which by the way was a gorgeous day for a drive. I had just crossed a rather busy road, and was heading uphill and around a very slight right curve in the road. There was a driveway for an indoor sports facility on my right. There was a 17 year old kid driving a Chevy Tahoe travelling the opposite direction from me waiting to turn into the sports place. For no apparent reason, he decided to turn while I was passing the entrance, and he slammed right into the side of my car. I have no idea why, it was sunny, dry, and his visibility was good since he was up high in a damn SUV.

So naturally, I was pissed. I pulled over and got out of my car, and started walking over to him. He's got 3 friends with him, and they're wearing lacrosse jerseys from the highschool I graduated from a few years back. So as he's getting out, he says to his friend "Dude, that guy just hit my car." WHAT!? Ok, first off, I was travelling straight, he was turning, it's already probably his fault. Second, he was turning across my lane of traffic, I have the right of way. Holy ****, I was pissed. So I bitched him out for that, and he changed his mind pretty quick. I think it was just an initial reaction, kinda like "Oh ****, that couldn't have been my fault" But either way it pissed me off.

So I go into the sports place to get paper and pens to do the info exchange. When I come out one of the guys in the parking lot had walked over to this kid, and I overhear him saying "that can't be his car, right?" And pointing to my car. And the kid replies "nah, it's probably his father's or something" What the hell! Give me some credit here son. So I look back the guy and say, with as much spite and anger as I can "Actually it is my car." And I just stare are him until he turns away. Come to find out this kid is driving his fathers Tahoe. Hypocritical *******.

Anyway, so we call the cops, do the accident report thing. My car is driveable, so I take it home. This was Sunday. I filed the report with my insurance company Monday morning. Here it is wednesday night and this ***** still hasn't contacted his insurance company. So they can't send out an appraiser to check out my car yet, so I can't get it fixed or get a rental yet. What an ***.

Now the good news. My neighboor, who is a pretty good friend, owns a body shop, so the car is getting fixed up all nice. And obviously the whole thing will need to be repainted because they can't match the paint on a 10 year old car, it's faded by now (wink wink) So I get a nice shiny new paint job.

As for the damage, I think the pics speak for themselves. Coulda been worse I guess. Pics can be seen here: http://jeffrx7.fotopic.net/c306556.html

Your pain is our pain. Well, as they say, **** happens. You should have beat the rotten kid senseless first. Since your buddy owns a body shop, have him get the estimate and take the insurance company to the cleaners. You should be well on your way to new a better things.

I almost thought this was going to be another thread about how they lost their RX-7 but it looks like you're going to fix it up. Good job! Keep it alive...

Bummer man. Well at least it isn't totalled. It might need a new 1/4 panel though. With Mazda parts prices that is probably $4K in damage if not more.

Damm sorry to here all the story. At least your were not harmed and the damages can be fixed even if it is quite a delicate spot to hit an RX7.

Hope to see you soon again on the streets.

And post pics of the new paint job once it is finished.

Its going to need a new 1/4 with the wheel housing and a new door not just the skin. most likely they will write the estimate to replace, but if they choose to repair make it clear you do not want that. They may try to be cheap since its 11 years old and replacing it on these cars is horibly expensive. Stand your ground and they will cave. Ive seen it quite a few times.

Although I understand you being bitter about the accident, I don't believe taking the insurance company "to the cleaners" is a good idea. It's reasons like this (amongst others) why insurance premiums are at an all time high. Anyway, good luck with getting it back on the road. Take pics when the work is all finished.

edit: just looked at picture nine, no estimator would try to repair that quarter. also make sure they give you time for rock guard and proper blend time. Even though your painting the whole car doesnt mean you shouuldnt try to get the most from his insurance company. If by "wink wink" you mean you going to have his insurance pay your going to have to do a lot of arguing. Howeve we once had to do a $5000 repaint because a guy got caught in a "dust storm" and claimed it under his comprehensive covrage. So i guess anything is possible.

I would have put my foot up that blind fool's *** and both hands down the throat of his two friend's . Cars going straight always have the right of way.

i say screw the premiums , you ain't playing for his **** ... take your car to a chassis alignment workshop and have your body checked out . A hit no matter big or small bends your chassis . if it is bent , have his insurance pay for the fix too .

I second Mdessouki . Replace the door and rear quarter . Be firm on that .

I was hoping you'd chime in with a response. My body shop hasn't seen the car yet so I was looking for an educated guess on repair costs. I was thinking somewhere in there, but I really didn't have anything to base my guess on.

I'm not planning on taking them to the cleaners, but they will be paying for any and all damage to the car as a result of this accident. And the part about the repaint is true, the wink wink is because I'm actually happy that the whole thing needs to be repainted. I'll definitely show everyone pics when it's all done.

Oh, and just to show you that I'm not bitter, and that I am making the best of the situation, I ordered my new Efini badges yesterday.

Both panels are definitely being replaced, not repaired. There are cusps and creases in both, so I don't think they even can be pulled. And the body shop I'll be taking it to is more than reputable in the area, and like I said I'm a longtime friend of the owner, so I know I'll be taken care of.

His insurance company is absolutely paying for all repairs, including the repaint. It wouldn't have needed to be repainted if it hadn't been hit. No way they can argue their way out of that one. I'm not talking a color change here, just a factory respray.

Thanks to all for your concern, I'll keep everyone updated. I think I'm getting my rental soon by the way, woohoo, it's either a Chevy Malibu, or a GrandAm or Grand Prix, and maybe even a Dodge Stratus

Did he tag your left rear wheel at all? Make sure that wheel is absolutely straight. When the car is on a lift with the wheel off you can make sure nothing is cracked or bent.

If you were still sequential, you could have gotten out of the way.
