More engine bay cooling...

So after relocating some fuse boxes i'm just about ready to get my fan in. i'm going to cut out a portion of the driver side fender liner and cover with screen. then install a 294cfm pusher fan there.

one question, i'm relocating the diagnostics box and the two connectors on that bracket (pic). just wanted to check -that bracket is just a bracket and not a ground for anything right? i plan on cutting it here (red circle in pic) to make room for the fan. only thing i'm not moving that may interfere is headlight motor. should be ok.

there is one ground wire that goes like this...

neg batt terminal->fuse block bracket->engine block->starter

so as long as you maintain ground points on those items, you're good to go

there's one M6x1.00mm stud sticking off the fuse bracket, it is for a ground point, the other one holds the fuse block down

is the ground one just behind the relay (top center) in the pic, or is that the mount?

got the fan in and it seems to do a good job
i had the car idling in the garage with just the back end sticking out. hood closed, no fan or anything. cranked the ac to make sure the rad fans were pumping lots of hot air into the engine bay.

after the car warmed up (83C) the air temp was at 31C, 15mins later it was 46. no breeze in the garage and it got pretty warm in there. ambient was about 75. i'll have to road test it to see if it helps at all but it wasn't so hot under the hood when i opened it up. what the heck it was sumthin to do.

Remember Elvis's song "In the Ghetto"?

Nah, never mind....nothing personal.

I hate to say this, but after all the trouble and thought you went to I really doubt if that little fan is going to actually accomplish anything - but hey, if it makes you feel good, why not?

I respect creativity.

You cut up the chassis for that?! What's wrong with running the radiator fans after shutdown?

Will that mess up the oil cooler or brake cooling flow?

it shouldn't mess up the oil cooler flow, as the oil cooler is before that fan, it has it's own source of air.

i highly doubt that will inhibit the brake cooling flow either, from the picture, it looks like the fan is mounted towards the front half of the wheel.

whether or not he has an R-model lip with ducts shouldn't matter for the brake cooling.

What happens when you drive it in heavy rain or winter snow slush? Water being strongly forced into the fan.

Have fun testing ths fall and winter!!!!!

So you put this in just for underhood temps? I don't think it'll help THAT much but you get an "A" for effort.
