Modifying stock oil pan? Possible?

When I bought my FD sometime ago I had noticed not long after that it had a dent in the oil pan where someone had obviously jacked the car up. This in it self has caused a major chain of effects which is another thread in itself. Right now I have the option of buying a new oil sump which is ex Japan (if in stock) or trying to fix my current pan which only has a small dent. But I was wondering if anyone has ever attempted to modify the stock pan in one way or another.

I'm sure you could, but you'd probably be better off just buying a new oil pan. Better yet, if your going through the trouble to take the thing off, get a larger aftermarket one. Whatever route you go, I personally wouldn't req. driving the car till its fixed. If your already starting to see problems, i'd let it sit before things get even worse.

I have pulled the baffles out of my pan pushed out the dents ,drilled the flow holes differently . Then brazed the baffles back in . I also made a reinforce plate to surround the pan to stiffen the bolt flange .It is made from SS steel .200 thick . I milled the motor mounts down to keep the motor at the same height . Do not say I weakened them and in a crask I will die because of that . On one pan I brazed cooling fins on the bottom . This not high tech work so do what you need . Good skill to you .

I was thinking about getting a new oil pan but just wondered if there was anyone who had made any modifications to a standard one that might make it worth while going that direction. Unfortuanately damage has been done and my engine is currently in a state of repair. Read the next post.

Check out the excessive motorsports / ground zero aluminum pan if you are in the market for oil pan solutions.

Well mine had a dent put in it while it was jacked at some stage. The unfortunate part was that this dent hit the oil feed pipe which broke the gauze filter at the bottom. This resulted in the gauze threads coming free and being pumped through to the rear rotor getting in behind the oil control rings. At the time I was losing massive amounts of oil and I couldn't figure out why, until it was too late and I lost compression in the rear rotor. It wasn't till we stripped it down that the cause was found. But will be done soon and back on the road before to long.

yeah thats really not cool.... I'll probably just head over to mazda and pick up a new one. They're only like $100 and the old one was starting to rust a little.

I just called MazdaTrix and they sell one for $123 with an additional $10 in shipping. The dealership here in Richmond,VA is $156 but they say they will just give it to me at wholesale which is $123. Difference is shipping is free at the dealership vs at MazdaTrix where they charge $10 more.
