PM me your qualifications.

Of course it's not a competition but OF COURSE we will be comparing lap times etc... after all we don't spend thousands on tires, pads, gas, hotel, food, maint, etc...... to sunday drive and look at the sites

Will there be media passes available for better positioning for better picture opportunity? If so let me know what I will need to provide upfront, I would really like better access to some good spots to get some sick shots.

BTW Fritz, saw the car up at PFS getting it ready I assume. Looks good.

I don't expect anything other then to have fun really. The way I see it I saved a parts car from the crusher doing my swap. Just would like to put a end to the bias thoughts of the LSX cars more then anything. Not accusing anyone in this thread of that just to be clear.

Guys, remember the original intent of the event is to compare different mods to a rotary engine, and to draw some conclusions from that. Should be fun trying to make some sense out of all the different rotaries we have slated

As for the LS crowd, if you are a "qualified" driver, then pm Fritz and you can drive on the track when the other cars are cooling down. I'm also sure there will be more than one or two of the guys driving that would love some seat time in your V8 powered car. You are also welcome to take my car out for comparisons as well or at least ride with one of the qualified drivers in the group. Hope this works for the V8 crowd as this isn't meant to be a V8 versus rotary thing. And remember, Modified is doing sidebar stories so maybe they'll write one up on this.

Regarding media, what would you like to do with the pics? This a Modified exclusive so we would want to avoid any conflicts.

Here is a spreadsheet of the current 5 cars and mods. As you can see, it's pretty diverse. We still need a stock FD so pm any of us if you fit the bill and can make it.

The pictures would be for RX7Club.com and the drivers at the event. If I get some good shots that Modified would want to use they would be more than welcome to them. I want to provide our members a little video but mainly some nice pics of the RX7's during this event.

^ Okay that would be awesome. I've got a GoPro that I am bringing along and I think other guys have something as well. Going to try to reactivate the Harry's Lap Timer on the iPhone too although I failed last time doing this at VIR. Has both video and track info built into it. We shall see.

Gordon, can you add this to the list for the VIR conversation?

Hey it's nice that you saved that Rx7 from destruction but please understand that you will never end any bias with the swap on a Rotary specific forum regardless how well your car may perform. Me personally I'm a diehard rotary fanatic and I could care less what people do with their own cars. Hell just like you if I stoped a viper from getting crushed, I would definetly stick a 4 rotor under the hood. Now I know the Viper guys would hate the idea but I could care less of any negative opinions I would get. Anyways, please bring your beast out as I'm sure there's plenty enough interested people who would want to check out/ride in your car.

^ I will bring my still shot setup as well as my video setup, it will be me +1 to run the video setup. If that is ok I will make the plans to be there and then I will put everything on a disc or two and provide it to whomever is in charge of this event so they can distribute to the drivers and Modified if they are interested.

Bone stock and a car with 500-525 RWHP might fill in the field nicely!

I agree. At 12 PSI I'm at 575 WHP so maybe we should run my car at that level.

Maybe bias was the wrong word. Miss information I guess covers it better.

Sounds like an interesting meet. Considering coming down to take a look at the cars. Sold my FC track car and I am in the market for another track car and was considering an FD. Regret selling the FC as it was a quick cheap clean fun track car. Cannot seem to find an FD without spending 4 times as much. I gather there is hotels near by?
I am also going to DGRR again I think its my 6 or 7th year again so I am sure will see some of you there this year.

Can you share your contact info with Modified Magazine? I'm bummed to see rule 3 in affect (no v8 rx7s). There are quite a few of us who want to see exactly this kind of testing info specifically related to the rotary vs. piston debate (how it turns in, strengths and weaknesses of any given power curve etc).

If this rule is really coming from Modified I'd like to make a formal request that they change their minds. I'm sure they cover the heck out of formula drift, and there doesn't seem to be a problem with imports running v8's over there.

Why are you guys letting modified dictate what cars to run? I for one like many others was looking forward to seeing how an LSX would stack up in this comparison. I will say I am not a fan nor a hater of the LSX's but I am curious.

Is modified sponsoring this? Is yes then I completely understand, if not then I don't get it.

I'd also like to see a track oriented V8 show up

Based upon the PMs I'm getting I think we'll end up skipping the dyno and renting the track for the whole day. Keep it simple and stay in one place.

This should be very casual and fun and with enough people shooting videos and pictures it shouldn't be hard to edit some really cool material.

I think you should lower it David as too much power and torque with street tires equals no traction.

I totally agree. Modified should be there merely as a "spectator" covering the event, not setting the groundrules. Unless they are ponying up some major $kin I'd say that guys footing the bill should dictate how the event is run and who gets to participate. This WAS originally conceived as a comparo for the RX-7 community at large was it not? I'd welcome an LSX car in the mix as well.

Who do you think is paying to rent the track out? Do you really think $200 covers a day at VIR? LOL

Yeah Gordon came up with the idea, and David, Fritz, Peter and us at Defined have put in the work to make it happen. I view it as modified doing us a favor with coverage. Its not a Rx7club community vote, and we don't need guys emailing modified with opinions on how they should handle the comparison. All comments and suggestions should be sent to Gordon, as he is the contact/leader of this whole event. Last thing we need is to upset Modified Mag.

Thanks everyone for the comments and opinions. We really do appreciate the enthusiasm and energy surrounding the event.

I've had a lengthy conversation with Peter Tarach, the Editor of Modified and we are in agreement to keep the comparison portion of the event with the original rotary intent. When we pitched the idea to Peter, we discussed doing a rotary upgrade or modification comparison and this really got them excited as they've never done a cover story on rotaries only, especially with this level of cars. How many of us have seen or heard a 4 rotor in action? Our initial idea matches Modified's and we need to stick with that.

Given the level of interest in having V8s in the mix, for this year, let's see if we can get some of the V8 guys to do some track time and you never know, Modified might notice and want to do a sidebar article on this. From our own discussion in this thread, it's obvious there is an interest so V8 guys, sign up and make it happen. Modified did say that they would have an interest next year in doing a story about rotaries versus V8s, so maybe we can make this an annual thing and work toward that for next year. Sound okay? I hope so as this get together was never supposed to answer the rotary versus V8 question. It is intended as a nice casual meeting and hanging out with some cool car guys.

Moving on....

Allrotor93 (Jonathan) has agreed to provide the baseline stock FD. You might know that John owns Eccentric Performance and he buys and sells a bunch of FDs on this forum so he and Steve Osley, mechanic/tuner extraordinaire, will prep a car to make it as stock as possible. He's going to add in a PFC so the driver can keep and eye on things but that should be about it. John has also asked about brake pads and what do we want for the track so I was hoping Fritz, Peter, or Logan would answer that for him. We are kind of thinking the stock pads should be replaced with something else for safety.

I've also had a question regarding the use of "donations". All monies will go towards the track rental. It costs a little over $3,000 to rent the track for 1/2 day and about double that for the entire day so it's not cheap. Any donations are appreciated but please remember, you don't have to contribute unless you'd like. If you want to drive on the track, then you'll need to pay but the costs we've posted are really low and a great deal. I hope you agree.

Finally, Logan has some updates to his 4 rotor beast and these are reflected on this spreadsheet. 2,480 LBs? What? Ive got to turn up the boost!!
