definately midpipe, for about 200$ adds the most HP. becarfeful though don't to blopw engine on boost spikes.

another one is PFC, for 30% less than AEM, and almost same price as remapped. definately a best bang for the buck.

lastly, the best bang for the buck is the engine torque brace currently in Group Buy section for under 200$ makes car drive better than new.

a few things i was going to say have been said
1.driving school
2.search function
3.and weight saving (ie. air pump, a/c, carpets in trunk, spare tire)

but seriously mod wise, intake and cb are first on the list. both can be done very cheap. make your own intake if need be. get universal k&n cones and some pvc pipe or aluminum pipe and use your imagination. the money you save on an intake can be used twords something like pully set, or put it twords saving for an ecu, you cant go much further with out it

The next big thing may be a downpipe.

Definitely midpipe. I'd install it before installing a fart can exhaust.

NO to the midpipe... The stock cat is the bigest restrictor in the exhaust and if you open this up ur **** to boost spike and popin ur engine..Ive heard of people boostin 17-18lbs of boost and the stock fuel sys cuts off at 14.7 psi..

I'll put my 2 cents in...

1. Boost Gauge $100
2. Replacement AST $150
3. Downpipe $250

Total $500 give or take a few dollars..

Also, if you can't do the installs yourself, you'll have to allocate some money to installion of your items as well.

Good luck!

True, but it still bar none, even if boost is ocntrolled to pevious levels, gives the most horsepower per dollar spent. well, maybe except for the Triple R torque Brace that is in GB section right now

The Evolution school is my favorite mod so far too. (Got my times down from 36.223 to 33.770 by the end of the day.) :1party:

Come on guys, the best bang for the buck mod has to be the midpipe. A muffler shop could make one for about a hundred bucks, and that removes the biggest bottleneck in the exhaust. This will send your boost through the roof = major horsepower. That being said, I don't have a midpipe because of all the reasons others mentioned... boost creep, noise, black soot; but shooting flames would be fun!

So I guess I agree with HedgeHog that a downpipe is the best practical bang4buck "performance" mod for a 3rd gen RX7.

If you are just starting out with an FD then I would recomend a
--boost gauge (~$120electric, ~$60 mechanical), (go electric, *I* think it is worth the extra $$ to make sure you are reading correctly, I didn't, and now I am having problems knowing if boosting ok),
For the gauge you will need someplace to mount it, so you might want to get a gauge pod (~$33)
--then do the vacuum hose replacement (~$100 if you buy a kit), it will help you learn what the rats nest is, (try not to break nipples off the solenoids. all part of the learning process)
--DP (~$150 used) and
--intake (~$250) would be next on the list.

So all that totals ~$650
If you can find the intake used (if you want to save money) then that would knock of some $$

Also, the biggest thing remember, that every one on this club will have some sort of opinion...make sure you do your own research (and use the search button first).

Best advice out of everything so far. 3rd gen RX-7's are fast STOCK. Learning how to drive them fast is a whole other story. After the school, I'd say it's a tossup between the downpipe and some good tires. Probably the downpipe ... a full set of good tires will run you well over $500.

I'm a new FD owner and I bought a new stainless steel downpipe. I'm going to wait to put it on though until I get a new aluminum AST and my silicone hoses and then I will putn it on. I also got a strut tower bar, I picked it up for very cheap only $20 on e-bay (it's an M2 front upper strut tower bar and weighs a little less than 2 pounds!), so my advice is try ssearchin on e-bay they have lots of nice things on there. The downpipe was on e-bay and I picked it up for $203 which included shipping insurance and a 2year warrenty! WOOHOO! Very nice unit might I add. So just shop around for good quality deals and then like everyone has been repeating each other I will follow with them in saying learn to drive the car before getting too crazy with it, but of course it's your car we are just trying to give friendly advice in helping you with your car . I have found tones of great advice with everyone being so nice. Have fun with your car and hope you get what you want.

The best upgrade you can get for under $500 is definately a downpipe. Get that at at least a boost gauage and you can start there.

As far as silicon hoses go, I wouldnt fix those unless the stock hoses are having problems... IF ITS NOT BROKE, DONT FIX IT. That rule should apply to everything maintinence wise, but not performance.

After DP and gauges, I'd go with a cold air intake. After that then go with tires. At this point adding an upgraded ECU (Apexi PFC), followed by catback exhaust, midpipe, upgraded injectors, and so on...
