mobil1 full-synthetic gear oil for tranny
has anyone used mobil1 full-synthetic gear oil in their FD transmission? i was wanting to use the neo or redline synthetics for the tranny, but i used the mobil1 in both of my turboII's and saw great results, not to mention its about half the price of the redline stuff. anyone have any input on this?

I use Mobile 1 in the tranny and diff. I've been meaning to try the Neo but I haven't yet. Mobile 1 is always available at the local part store so that's what I use. It's been great so far.

try royal purple.... i run it in my FC...it out performs mobil1 hands down....also have syncromesh like additive in it...makes it easier to shift when cold...also if you have and grinding syncros will cushion them better...also i ve heard of people running sycromesh the GM stuff its suppose to be really good.

the great oil debate rolls on and on with no conclusion (ever) in sight...
you won't find anything conclusive here BTW.
i ran Mobil One in my GT3 Mazda in SCCA Nationals for 6 full seasons. my motors ran from 7000 to 10,000 for each of the 35 minute races and the week of the RunOffs at Road Atlanta. when i say from 7000 i mean that was the absolute low rpm for the entire race.
with the exception of one qualifying session where we decided to bump the final drive ratio one tooth ( quick change rear end) and run the motor to 10,300 from 10,000 at the bottom of the hill at the end of the main backstraight i never had one motor failure.
i ran Mobil One in both my Saenz straight cut gear transmission and my Speedway Enginering rear end.
i also ran Mobil One bearing grease.
the bearing grease was the coolest.... it was developed for the nosewheel for the F15 Eagle... think of the challenge to that bearingset. zero to 180 mph in one second w the nose weight of the F15 on it.
Mobil was asked to develop it...
there may be other lubes that work well but there is nothing ever in my FD but Mobil One oil, gear lube and wheel bearing grease thank you.

People really need to look into the chemistry and history behind the oils rather just put what the believe.
I have been to many oil sites and have kept several aricles on the sythn debate for years.
The main conclusion i have come to is based on reading and then a personal conversaton with the owner of Redline.
Independent article on oils in a several issue of twin motorcycle oil etc.....
only Amsoil and Redline start with a high grade base stock ( like peanut oil) as compared to others. Mobile One is definatly the leader in quality and science with those two.
The exact comment when I asked why I cant sell 55gl of Redline or Amsoil as down oil fluids like Royal purple does is because "Royal Purple does not use the same expensive base stock but rather a crude oil base stock."
So it is not a consistant or as expensive to start.
There are motor oil engineering sites on the web if want to see for your self.

I use Mobil 1 75-90 I actualy bought $300 worth of it. Ive been a great fan of it trying everything from RP to Canadian tire shitmix. You should stick with it works great in FD trannys.... only issues ive seen is when (canadian) cold shifts can be a little clunkey at first. But once it heats up smooth as silk.

Best thing is to actualy contact a petrol distributor in you area. Don't go the the retail stores to get this stuff or they'll rip you off. You can even call Mobil oils tech line they're pretty smart guys if you explain your situation.

BG Synchro Shift
I have tried Redline and then switched to BG Synchro shift with a tube of BG MGC and the stuff works like magic. It shifts very smoothly and the notchy feeling has been reduced. It is like 11 bucks a bottle from the BG man and the MGC is like 6 bucks a tube. I was also looking at the Royal purple too, but never went ahead since the the bg switch.

It makes more sense to me to spend a few more $ for the good stuff. Lets say that you change your tranny fluid once every 4 years, and Neo costs $15 more. Thats a pretty small difference given how long it will last.

Hello-
I made a post about this just a couple days ago...
For best results with syncros, use an oil WITHOUT friction modifiers . Mobil 1, like 95% of the gear oils out there, has them. For the best results, I'd recommend a synthetic without them. Redline 75W-90NS is one of them. There are others, too.
You'll likely be fine with Mobil 1. But, I'll bet that you'd be better with something else.

i run redline gear oil in my transmission. its fine as i can tell. i will be comparing it to royal purple when i chang out the oil. btw how many quarts of gear oil do i need. i can't seem to find this anywhere in the forums.. maybe its in my owners manual
