Mileage on rebuilds and most common failure?

On the average, what are most people getting out of a rebuild? And what are the most common causes of failure? It seems like the stock engines are good for ~90K, and that the most common failures are either coolant seals or apex seals. So....what about the rebuilds? Seems like a lot of people aren't getting HALF the mileage of the original....from the various threads in the past. I realize a lot of folks opt for modded to some degree engines when they DO rebuild, but let's try to compare 'stock-for-stock'.

Hard to say. The big thing is you can't double the output of the engine and expect it to have the life of a stock motor - it's pretty much true for many small-displacement powerplants.

You also have to take into account that a lot of people working on these cars really don't know what they're doing. The biggest problems stem from all the stuff bolted onto the motor, not necessarily the motor itself.

So, it's really hard to say is what I'm getting at . There's way too many factors involved to determine the quality of the motor itself.

My rebuild has 17,000 miles so far and going strong.

But yes, there are many factors that could lead to a dead engine.

I bought a car that was/is smoking (probably oil control rings at the least) that only has 7K miles on it. It's gone through 3 owners since the last rebuild and the motor is from Hayes.....you take your pick on which factors made this engine die such a untimely death.....

It all depends on mods/hp level. I think that if you stay around 300 rwhp, your motor will lead a long healthy life if you obey all the Rules of the Rotary (dont overheat, 93 octane blah blah). I have never had a coolant seal or oil control o ring problem with my reman/rebuilds. Always too much boost==detonation. Hey, I am power hungry

i have an atkins reman in my car with 26k miles on it. the first 17k was with the twins and around 350whp, with the remainder being a t78 with 439whp. holding up very well for all the crap people talk about atkins' motors

I guess it all depends on what rebuild you do and what mods you have...for instance I replaced everything in the block other than the rotors and the ecc shaft. I have a lager IC, better intake, bigger radiator and a Power FC running very conservatively. I put 100 oct fuel and premix...what I would be happy with ??? hopefully 100,000km, but tempting providence something else might fail and send me back to basics
