Midpipes!

trying to figure out which midpipe to get.

rx7store.com's

SS midpipe
SS resonated midpipe

rx7.com's

Bonez midpipe
Bonez resonated midpipe
----

or another brand??

feel free to make suggestions. the exhaust i will be using on it is either
1) APEXI GT
or 2) Greddy TI

thanks for the help!
take noise, performance, weight into the equation, as well as sound quality. i want something deep and throaty, rather than obnoxious loud.

Hi! I will go for a highflow Bonez cat and replace the downpipe instead. If you still have the stock ecu just be careful what mods you're into.

what other mods have you done to the car? chances are you don't need a midpipe and the stock one will do just fine for now. i'd highly suggest you read up on threads about midpipes and the issues that go with changing them out (start in the FAQ's). and intake, downpipe, cat-back exhaust, and ECU will net you plenty of gains without having to deal with the midpipe.

do yourself a favor and get rx7store's resonated mid pipe with the magnaflow muffler. much quieter than the rest and provides the best exhaust note.

i'll be selling mine soon if you want to save a few bucks. mine has about 1,500 miles on it.

oh haha i should have listed my current mods

current mods are:

reliability mods (hoses, etc)
HKS RS intake
Efini y-pipe
Downpipe
ported wastegate
.
planning to buy
Apex GT exhaust
rx7store resonated midpipe
power FC base mapped to the above, eventually tuned within the month.
-----

i need suggestions on which midpipe will give the nicest (deep tone) without being too loud (out of the car, but especially interior-wise since i listen to music). also ive read that the catback has alot to do with the noise after a midpipe as well, so i was thinking APEX GT or GREDDY TI. weight of the GT is 28lbs. and the TI is about 10lbs. the 18lbs dont really matter to me, cause i already have subs that weigh more than that.

been reading alot on midpipes through the search lately and not much info on comparisons between the different pipes out there. looking for the deepest "quietest aka. less loud" one, since i know with any exhaust/dp/mp combo its going to be a bit loud. unless its RB duals.

thanks for the help all

i dont know what your hoping for but with a DP/MP/CATBACK selection is going to be loud... the APEX GT and the GReddy TI aint no joke either. id go with someone elses suggestion and go for a Hi-Flow Cat. and even then with the catback your looking at, its still going to be loud.

I ran a DP/HiFlow/PFS on my car and even then between the drone and exhaust, it was pretty loud and the PFS is nowhere near as loud as an APEX.

now.... i did catch one thing though. weight.... i dont know why people underestimate weight reduction... by reducing 200-300 lbs off your car, your looking at 47hp gains because your power vs weight ratio is changing... and not only that, your handling improves greatly as well... i mean, its a sports car... id figure people would love those qualities in a car.

rx7 resonated mid is much quieter around town than any other. Just be careful of an open exhaust w/ no added fuel/ management..

when you get your PFC, you gotta make sure your running richer than normal if you install a midpipe and such. not enough to flood the engine but definitely enough so you dont knock it.

will i need anything else on it? is it necessary to get an ignition system like hks twin power, or injectors/sparks.

if the MP is going to be a big hassle i might just get the exhaust see how it sounds, and hopefully i dont have to get a newecu/pfc.

whats good AFR anyway? im running a bit rich as is, i can smell the gas from across the street.

mid pipe will be a big hassle. it is probably the most dangerous mod b/c it makes boost control more difficult. all you need is one cool night to overboost and.... plus it smells like ****. if you are complaining about smells already mid pipe is not something you want to do.

the bonez high flow cat is a good alternative. so is the gotham racing one.

if you want to enjoy music, get the Racing Beat cat back exhaust.

oh and read the FAQs. All this info is there. I think its the 5th sticky down in this forum.

As far as smelling gas, unless you are very competent with working on this car, have the car looked at by an experienced rotary shop. Search (or go to the FAQ thread) for FPD or fuel smell or fire and you'll understand why.

Go with the Rx7store midpipe with the Magnaflow muffler. Works exceptionally well. I replaced my Pettit resonated MP (way too much drone) with the RX7store one and it works great. Keeps the sound down and you can listen to tunes.

I believe they are talking about the ridiculously annoying monotone sound you get at highway speeds with some exhaust setups.

Talking

I Just installed the Apexi N1 and am very satisfied with it. But it is mainly because I have a HKS 3" downpipe and Bonez 3" midpipe as well. Its extremely loud on the throttle and shoots a bit of flames because im runnin a little rich.

thanks for the replys everyone.

oh and for the drone factor. i was planning on lining the floor with dynamat. think that should help stop drone/roadnoise??

very useful info. sorry if its "repeat thread", but really i didnt find the other threads too useful except a few (such as the stickys on pro/con), but they talked about generalities and usually ended up about N1s and more common exhaust. couldnt find much on the Greddy TI nor the APEX GT. esp, the match up with a dp/mp.

with all the info given, it looks like the rx7store would be the quietest. and least drone. i really like the fact the TI is about 30lbs lighter than the stock exhaust.but the "deafening" factor of the TI i keep hearing about might want me stay more towards the SS apex gt (which i know is LOUD... to most, but probably not as loud as the TI). or the RB duals. if anyone has sound clips, post them up. youtube has terrible sound clips. and most of the sound clips i find through searches are dead links.

Greddy TI, APEXI GT, RACING BEAT
DP/CB clips.
DP/MP/CB clips.
DP/ResMP/CB.
(interior or exterior)

so people can tell the difference the MP makes.
