You'll probably have a better angle at it if you remove the alternator.

I had to remove my alternator to get it. I couldn't get enough grip on the thermoswitch to undo it otherwise.

Do you think it's possible to get at it with a deep socket and ratchet? It should fit right over the electrical connector.

The Miata thermoswitch will screw right in, but it has a different connector. I ordered my thermoswitch from Ray @ Malloy Mazda and he have me a little wire to raplace the connector that is already on the car.

The thermoswitch is on the engine side of the coolant filler neck. Underneath the pressure chamber, below the coolant nipple and ECU thermosensor (has a green connector).

(Hey, check out my levatating wastegate and turbo pre-control solenoids!)

207F instead of the FD stock 226F.

Are you sure about that temp? KDR quoted me for a 180F Miata Thermoswitch. The same info appears on their website as well. Did Miatas come with 2 diff thermoswitchs? Or does someone have their info crossed?

Are you sure they weren't talking about the "Thermostat"?

The FD thermostat doesn't open all the way until 180F. Having the fans on at that time wouldn't be a good thing.

The Miata has one spade while the stock connection has two, or the other way around. I can't remember.

Here ya go:

Then you're all set. The Miata thermoswitch just has a single small metal tab that a spade lug can slip onto. I cut off my old connector, crimped on a small spade lug and slipped it right into the Miata part. Piece of cake. The spade lug itself is tight enough not to fall off, no need for a true locking factory connector (though it would be preferable).

BoOsTin FD, That looks like the water thermoSENSOR, not the thermoSWITCH, but I could be wrong. I'm just judging by the electrical lead.

FD t-stat starts to open at 180F and is fully open at 203F, per factory manual. My mazda spare t-stat is stamped 82C (=180F), which normally indicates initial opening point from closed.

Miata switch ...

The miata switch is N350-18-840, single small pin and o-ring under the hex nut section. 207F rating. Works on most FD's, not all. Simple test is ground the wire to the switch with ign on, engine cold. If fans come on, it will work well. If not, still no fans 'til 221F. Another positive sign, if you have the fan-mod switch, is fans come on whenever switch is on, with ign on.
