Megan Racing Downpipe??????

COULD ONLY FIND ONE POST FROM QUITE A WHILE BACK WITH NO INFO. SO HERE GOES AGAIN.

THE SYSTEM WAS ON EBAY - GOOD PRICE, APPEARS WELL MADE.
BUT WHAT ABOUT..... CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS ITEGRITY???.... FITMENT ISSUES???.... QUALITY OF MANUFACTURING - WORKMANSHIP???.... CUSTOMER SUPPORT, SERVICE???

HAS ANYONE HAD ANY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS PRODUCT THAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO SHARE. IT IS SHOWN AND DESCRIBED AS A TWO PIECE SYSTEM IN STAINLESS - MANDREL FORMED - CNC FLANGES - TIG WELDED ETC.

JUST A THOUGHT BECAUSE IM NEW TO THE 3RD GENS AND IVE LOVED THEM FROM THEIR FIRST INTRODUCTION. AS WE WELL KNOW, PRICE DOESNT ALWAYS DICTATE THE QUALITY OF A PRODUCT. ITS ALWAYS NICE TO FIND THOSE SPECIAL DEALS AT REASONABLE PRICES. BUT DAMN, EVERYTHING IS EXPENSIVE FOR THESE LITTLE GEMS. GOTTA LOVE EM THOUGH!!
THANKS AND PLEASED TO MEET YA.

SOME OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES!!

Please remove the caps lock button from your keyboard so you'll never accidentally leave it on again. If you must use caps, the shift key will suffice.

first buy a caps lock key that works properly

I think you should become better acquainted with your caps lock key.

Snsjdmrotary: HEH...HE.. ANYWAY

no seriously, push the button

Remember that caps lock thing we talked about before??

Search for down pipe or DP and you will quickly find they are all very similar, the only real issue is fitment and material!

ROTARY

You guys need to calm down about the caps key! Whats the big deal? Does it seem like the person is yelling as you read? If thats the case let me suggest turning down your voice as you read out loud or perhaps control the the voice level in your head as you read to yourself.

With that out of the way, I have heard of people with fitting issues with these cheap downpipes, and midpipes. To me its not worth it. I would rather spend a little extra cash and know I'm gonna get the right part than to wait and see that the part doesn't fit and have to return then spending extra for shipping and usually restocking fees. But if you do get the cheap stuff good luck.

Welcome Chuck, it is nice to see another new Seattle area forum member. I think that the comments about the caps lock are just because it makes things a little harder to read. Many people just browse this forum and when they see something like that they'll just skip it. You will do yourself a favor (you will get more people to read your post) and don't use all caps.

Anyway, back to the topic. I have also *heard* of fitment issues, but I can't say for myself. I like Enconsiderate just bought a more expensive DP because I didn't want to deal with the hassle. If you do decide to get it, let us know how it fits! Oh, and one more thing. If you get a midpipe you WILL fail emissions here in Seattle. Also midpipes tend to cause boost spikes and/or creep which can damage your engine. Do some searching or reading of the sticky / newbe threads about midpipes. Good luck with your new FD

to rotarypower101- nice to meet you to.

at first, i thought it was my ex-wife or 9th grade typing teacher harrassing me under the guise of a pseudonym-rotarypower101. but alas, its just a total stranger whose sensitive nature was tested perhaps compromised for getting beyond the caps issue to dissect the content of my short synopsis. final point, i dont do anything accidentally. my work in engineering requires the use of caps for any dialog i may enter and if it is set to caps when i do something else that doesnt require strict protocol then thats just the way it is. considering that i am a man who can work within the bounds of political correctness and mutual courtesy, i shall not intimidate you with the use of ALL CAPS again.
point taken! by the way, do you like the all lower case look?

and thank you for the response re: my question.

Have one of these in my garage and compared to the M2, they are similar, but there is a stud/bolt hole that is occluded due to the not so perfect replication process.

It means, that to install it, you'll have to "walk" the downpipe on:
Line up on all 4 studs
Barely have threads showing
Thread lower nut onto stud
Push in a little
Thread nut further

In other words:
No muscling the downpipe onto the studs.

Haven't actually installed it permanently in the target car, but that's going on prior installs I've done and comparison to the M2 that I have sitting next to it.

Alternative is to pull the offending stud and use the commonly used replacement hex-head bolt (haven't done this myself, so I can't attest to longevity, but my M2 pipe held up great for approximately 3 years).

Oh yeah. There is no such thing as a bolt-on.
If you still think so, you are still an amateur mechanic/car tweaker.

No prob brother I don’t have a problem with it at all, you can make them 40 FEET TALL for all the *F* I care.

It was just a quick search under the key words of “caps lock” that yielded those responses, mostly from user Jeff20B.

I just posted them for the regulars of this board for a little giggle, as I am sure you can imagine we get a lot of tiny tots around here that don’t know how to use a keyboard. Oh sorry guys my chocolate milk was sitting on my caps lock button

A little freshman hazing if you will.

Welcome to the forum and check out the NW section

By the way I have the stainless midpipe, and I honestly think it is better than alot of the big brand name pipes I have seen! Nice thick flanges and smooth bends. Good luck on you choice, just remember all it has to do is transfer the exhaust gasses to the catback to work sufficiently. I know if I had it to do again I know exactly which product I would put my money into again. And it wouldn’t be 2-3 times as much for a laser imprinted emblem that I will never see again that says HKS. Don’t scrimp on the catback though you get what you pay for in that department.
Good luck

OH YA ALSO HUHUHM……

PUT THE TOILET SEAT DOWN YOU SLOB!!

I TOLD YOU CHUKKY, PUT YOUR GAMEBOY AWAY NOW!!

you guys are awesome, lots of great info. consensus seems to be go for quality parts. and i agree. just wasnt sure what these ebay vendors were peddling. one thing to consider though - many of the u.s. manufacturers are farming out their work to taiwan and china and what we get now still has the "american corporation" name on it but it is no longer made here. my company is doing that, i design it and it gets built over there, but we monitor it very closely. but there are also a lot of knock offs building inferior products as well.

point is that manuf cost go down and we oftentimes as consumers reap the benefits with lower end user costs. i would think that some if not a lot of these aftermarket parts are handled the same way. so highest cost does not always equal best quality part.

personally, i want the best quality parts but i dont want to disassemble and modify my entire car to install it.

bottom line - help me out here - since i do value all of your opinions - im looking for best price, best quality, and easiest to install - stainless only. not too much to ask.

so, who does good 3rd gen work in the seattle area.

thanks for the great input and i dont mind the hazing - keeps my mind working and my brain flowing from head to toe - just beware of my exhaust especially if i upgrade my catback.

ps. - the gameboy........ converted it into a dvd video monitor for my 3 kids in the back seat of my fd. heheh

It's simple, everyone in the thread who spent rediculous money on their DP is going to justify it by saying that the name brand is better. Nobody wants to feel ripped off, it's that simple. I have the RVM racing DP from Ebay, $160, and there were ZERO fitment issues. It's made of SS, mandrel bent and tig welded, just like all the "Name Brands". I promise you, it is fact that they are all the same, but nobody who spent $300 on a DP, is going to tell you that a $150 DP is just as good.

Wrong.

The welds are inferior on the Megan unit compared to the M2. They will probably hold but there is a visible difference to the trained eye.

As a buyer of the Megan Racing ss dp and mp combo, I wished I had not. We tried to test fit it. It looks like it will go on, but there are some issues. If you don't want to spend $300+ and don't mind the extra work then it is fine. I'd sell it for $50 less than what I paid in a heart beat and spend more on a nicer pipe.

I too have installed the megan racing down pipe and I am really not happy with the fit , If you are using it with your stock cat , the flange is at a totally different angle so it leaves a gap on the top of the flange when tightened all the way , I had to make a custom gasket for it to seal properly , the welds on the manifold side prevent the nut from sitting all the way on the flange, some grinding/dremeling is required unless you use the allen head bolt. Looks great...fits like crap . Its a classic case of you get what you pay for .
