Cool Mazdatrix Short Throw Shifter vs Mazdaspeed replica

I HAVE BEEN READING EVER POST I COULD FIND FOR THE LAST TWO DAYS, so believe me I did a search. My concern that I think I read in the last thread was that with the stock boot and shift **** there is a gap that allows heat and the actual shifter to be seen. I simply want to know if that gap is also seen on the Mazdatrix shifter. I posted the link for the pic of the shifter because when I talked to Mazdatrix they claim that it doesn't show, but their shifter is about the same size as the B&M which is why I wanted to ask someone that actually has it installed. I'm pretty sure from the look of the Mazdaspeed shifter that it covers like the stock, but I just can't see paying almost $300.00 for a shifter.

My mazdaspeed shifter covers like the stock one. I'd like to know who has them for $300 new, I'll but all they've got.

OH, you're referring to a replica shifter.

I recommend the C's shifter. It's been around for ages - and there are no issues with it whatsoever.

Where can I find the C's shifter so that I can compare, and what's the price on the C's.

Thanks
Michael

Also - I believe the MS is just a relabled C's shifter.

Pardon my ignorance, but what does "Before M/C" and "After M/C" mean? It's in C's catalog under FD3S shifters.

Too Much for a Shifter

For $366.00 it can stay in Japan, I'm looking just to find out about how the more reasonable shifters fit with the stock boot and handle. I'm positive that the C shifter does everything right and for that price it better shift it's self.

I've Sent my "spare" shifter off to the Machine shop to get "modified".I also have a Miata Short throw shifter from EBay.I Have found that the plastic slot where the pivot point is on the Ball Wears out.SO I am getting that Modified too.I'm going to be a Guinea Pig on my own Idea of what the shifter Should be(for Cheapies!)..I get them back next week ,so If anything Comes out of it,I'm going to post with Results.Total investment on this is about 100 Canadian.

Now I NEED a Pic

Update, talked to Ray at Malloy and he informed me that the $99.00 shifter from Gotham meets all my criteria’s, if anyone has a pic of the stock shifter boot and **** on a Gotham shifter, Mazdaspeed replica, or Mazdatrix short throw I WOULD REALLY APPEICATE IT, SO I CAN BUY ONE ON MONDAY AND BE DONE WITH THIS.

From looking at that mazdatrix - it is the way to go BTW. It's pretty much exactly the same as C's, MazdaSpeed, etc. - which are all solid and reliable true short shifters for FDs, FCs, etc. The B&M and Gotham are DIFFERENT designs.

Also:

I HAVE BEEN READING EVER POST I COULD FIND FOR THE LAST TWO DAYS, so believe me I did a search. My concern that I think I read in the last thread was that with the stock boot and shift **** there is a gap that allows heat and the actual shifter to be seen.
This will not be an issue.

I bought the gotham shifter a year or so ago and it rattled/vibrated so much I had to take it out. (you can read all the rattling/vibrating reports on here). PM me if you want it cheap. . .
I'd like a short shifter, but when I was researching it before, no one could guarantee good performance and noise/rattle free. Has this changed over the last year or so?

jmadams, of course no one can guarantee anything. The mazdatrix/c's/ms type variants are all pretty rattle-free/rare. Haven't had any real issues.

I've had my MazdaTrix shifter for over a year and I love it. For $209, you can't go wrong.

You wouldn't happen to have a pic would you??? The Mazdatrix is on the top of my list and if I don't hear anything between now and Monday morning then I'm ordering this one.

I have a picture of my interior with the shifter in it. There's really not a whole lot to see. Probably won't help much but here goes...

I too have been using the Mazdatrix shifter for several year with good results. I like it a LOT better than the B&M shifter I had before. Also, other FD owners who drive my car always give compliments on the shifter.

Bringing this post back from the dead to follow up and share my actual experience. After installing the Gotham shifter and removing it because it rattled so much; on a tip from Clayne, I picked up a Cs shifter on eBay for $200. It is now installed, no rattle, good feel, and quite a short shift pattern! I know people have had different experiences with shifters and there is a lot of debate about whether rattling is car dependent or shifter dependent. In this case, same car, everything identical except the shifter.

I don't think you can go wrong with a C's or a Mazdaspeed shifter. I picked up one of the last three Mazdaspeed shifters that SR motorsports had left. It was pricey at $399, but works flawlessly. I've heard that it the same shifter as a C's, but not sure how factual that claim is. Regardless, they are both an excellent choice.

Jesus Christ, you payed $400 for a short shifter???

I have ran the Gotham shifter for over 3 years, no rattles at all. I have also driven a B&M in the past and thought it felt nice and tight.

John Magnuson, why do you like the Mazdatrix so much more than the B&M?

I found the Mazdatrix to shift much more smoothly than the B&M, which was notchy and stiff in comparison.

The reason I switched initially was that the B&M shifter was rattling against the transmission tunnel. It is very large at the base compared to the stock or Mazdatrix shifter and would make contact with the chassis on hard turns especially if combined with acceleration.

Switching to the Mazdatrix eliminated this rattle and I also found the shifting to be much more to my liking. But that is, of course, a matter of personal taste.
