Is the mazdatrix any closer than the gotham shifter? I currently have the gotham and I want something shorter.

I started this thread and ended up getting the Mazdatrix shifter. All I can say is read the disclaimer before you purchase. MY CAR IS THE 1 OUT OF 3. Link below!!!!

Gotham's is almost like stock, going to second is still a little long for autocrossing.

I love my C's , it sucks the went out of business.

Off topic , I was at a shop last month and saw about four FD's with "short shifters"

Whats up with cutting the stock one down ? Its not really a short shift, just looks stupid

PETTIT/MAZDASPEED (replica) and RX7store are a little different design. Closer to OEM and virtually no possibility of rattles. They also shorten throws to about 50% vs. IIRC, 30%. Pricey, but I really like mine. Short enough that it took a while to get use to it, but now I can't imagine anything else. And I got lucky and bought it new for ~$200 shipped from a forum member.

I'm not that happy with being the 1 out of 3. It could just be my tranny, but I know that my stock shifter didn't make any noise.

yeah i read the article but it also states that all short throw shifters share the risk of a rattler or noise... so pretty much they all suck

[QUOTE=GoodfellaFD3S]Jesus Christ, you payed $400 for a short shifter???

I have ran the Gotham shifter for over 3 years, no rattles at all. I have also driven a B&M in the past and thought it felt nice and tight.

Yes I did!! I did much research and found that many people were buying one brand or another, being unhappy and then trying a different brand. So I decided to go with the highest quality one available and being done with it. It functions beautifully. Smooth shifts, shortest throw available and its quiet.

When I drove Rich's car I noticed there were a couple degrees of free rotation right to left in the shifter. Frankly, that is enough to make me buy something else. However, it felt very positive otherwise.

I used to have the Pettit super short shift kit in my previous FD, but I hated it! It was so notchy that shifting betwen first & second required me to practically stop the hifter in the middle, then click it into second.

What shifter is as smooth as stock....just flows from one gear to the next without clicking from one to the other?

Anyone using the Amemiya shifter? If so, what do you think? I have one but it will be a while before I get to test it out.

Related to rattle? I don't think I've seen this mentioned before so thought I'd throw it out there. When replacing my stock shifter with the Cs shifter, the very last piece I dug out of the stock unit tunnel was a shim/spring thing (like round shim except it was wavy thus creating a "spring" effect when the pieces install on top of it. Seemed like it made sense to leave it and I did. I wonder if some of the rattling shifters (of the mazdaspeed/Cs style) had this removed when installing? Just a thought. . .
