How current is your info airjordan? Last I heard (late 2012 through early/mid 2013) they were doing them again using mostly new parts..

What?! I just bought one from Ray in January. Did he say they stopped making them temporarily. I remember reading somewhere on the forum the reman factory stopped for a period of time and then continued making them.

It is true. There are parts that have gone NLA that are required for the Remans, was told by Ray that it is the E-shafts, stationary gears, pulleys....could be a couple other parts, luckily it is not housings or irons yet.

Love it that manufacturers stop making parts when you actually need them

Banzai, so from a professional point of view, what dies the future look like as far as keeping these cars running?

Cool

I said a while ago, it was a dying breed.
Just look at the part out threads, it's a feeding frenzy for anything and everything.
These news, now puts the last nail on the coffin.

Mazda continued to make FDs in Japan until 2002. I wonder if these parts are available in Japan and just not here.

From professional standpoint, it means we engine builders are about to get that much busier. When rotor housings are NLA, like the 12A, it starts to become much more difficult to put together an engine.

The parts have always originated in Japan, when a part becomes NLA it means there are no more anywhere in Mazda inventory.

Really ignorant question, then: can RX-8 engines be converted into comparable single turbo powerplants in FDs?

this is true. very occasionally Mazda will run another batch of a part, and it will become available again, the 1st gen hoods did this in the 90's, and the 110 cosmo taillight made a re-appearance as well.

The housings and irons are different design (Side port exhaust) and would take a bit of work to make the exhaust flow peripheral like the FB/FC/FD engines (I'm not sure if it would be possible, no idea of the coolant passages would allow it). Basically rendering the 13B-MSP far from ideal for turbo applications.

The 13B-MSP stat gears and e-shaft work just fine with a 13B-REW though (with minor modifications)...

If you're looking to add different generation internals to an FD engine I'd personally go with FD irons/housings, rx-8 e-shaft/stat gears, and S4 N/A rotors (get them lightened/clearanced/balanced first).

I thought the RX8 Eshaft , and stationary gears could be used on the REW's .

Good to know. I hope Mazda brings the reman motors back when they've got enough orders.
