Mazda Dealerships = Ripoff POS Sons of B*tches
My local Mazda dealership is a F*ing rip off!!! I need to replace all 4 of my spark plugs so I call them, wanting to go the OEM route and they sell all 4 for $164.00!!!!!!!
I laughed and hung up --- Rx7store.net sells the same 4 plugs for $40.00

Which is still bad, considering you can go to any Napa or Advance Auto and buy them for around $6 ea and not wait on or have to pay for shipping
or you can buy them online http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductL...or=Spark+Plugs

You should be able to get them at any local auto parts store...they may have to special order them, but you'll have to wait if you order them online anyways.

There are some dealers around here who charge retail + 20%. Take bad prices and add 20% = awful.
The current retail price for a plug is $11.35. However there is a set of four with a Mazda part number (N3X5-18-110) that retails for $124.15. I'd like to know exactly what kind of plug that is.

I thought there was some regulation requiring every OEM to support a vehicle with a minimum number of spare parts for up to ten years. This would prevent an OEM from selling a bunch of vehicles and disappear, leaving the owners with vehicles worth nothing because they can't be maintained.
On a less busy night I'd google that for facts, but I thought I'd share it anyway.

A number of years ago, I was getting some work done at a shop. This guy came in asking if he could get his Daewoo fixed. The mechanic told him right there that not only did they not have anything in stock to replace what was broken, but they weren't able to order it either.

It would seem that OEMs mostly patent the style-related parts:

I'm still looking for whether there are regulations on how many parts the OEM must provide.
I suspect it boils down to basic market forces. The OEM keeps them around as long as their service departments can make money off the their parts warehouses. And they mark up the parts more and more as they get older to incent owners to buy a new car.

Just a quick plug for my bud Ray Crowe..... for the few on this forum who don't already know, he runs the Malloy Mazda (in VA) parts section, and he also owns a sweet black/red interior FD (with nitrous no less ) so he makes ordering very easy, no part #s needed. He also offers very deep club discounts, and ships fast. Big Ray can be reached at 888 533 3400, or at hmkparts@aol.com for you international cats

I had to walk out of a local dealer a few years ago because the manager refused to sell me a part for MSRP. He wanted 20% more. I have never had this experience with any other brand. Even Bay Area Porsche or BMW dealers would not dream of asking above MSRP.

Ugh, don't get me started with my Mazda dealership.. I've been having problems with my FD.. (No surprise) and after two days of trying to do it myself.. I figured I'd let the dealer find the problem and I'd fix it.
They call me and say, "We have no idea whats wrong with your car. Your total is 104 dollars."
I was like... "Why do I have to pay you if you didn't find anything wrong with my car?!" I do understand that they took their time to look at it.. But dude.. if you can't find anything wrong.. then why should I pay yoU!? AH!!! F@#$%^&*(

ya i know how you fee, i took my car in cause there was a recall on the ECU's and they installed a remaned one. when i got it back i looked at the ECU (by the way they broke my door sill.) and it was dated about 4 years ago, whitch means that it wasnt remaned because when techs install other parts they date it the same day that it was installed and it was also signed. Anyways, now the car is hardley even going, when i floor it its like some one is fliping a power switch on and off.
so i told them i wanted mine back and they charged me $60 labor just because they messed up.
