Max speed sucks?

I have a 93 Rx-7 with a rebuilt motor and blabla nothing really special, its almost all stock. I took it out the other day at like 3am and could only manage to get it up to 120 mph, I knew something was weird tho since i was only like half way through 5th gear. Do i need to get a chip or something? Also i wanted to get an aftermarket BOV any suggestions on a good brand?

Thx for the help!

Also, the stock BOV is the one you want. It works like a champ, and you wont be wasting your money on pointless ricer part.

Second turbo transition problems maybe? You need a boost gauge to know though, so I'll go with dubulup and say get that first and see whats going on. 120 certainly is low unless you're using a JDM ecu (they should cut at 118 mph per Japanese regulations), my 92 Escort GT could go faster than that stock... lol

youre an idiot? no point in taking it to a shop. everything else is fine and the turbos are just old, they need to be replaced not fixed -_-. just wondering if thats whats draining my top speed, doesnt seem like it should.

I agree with scratchjunkie. You need to take this car to an FD specialist.

Because you my friend have alot to learn. First of all spend some cash on a quality boost gauge before you drop money on a BOV that you don't even need.

If you are trying to reach top speed why are you in fifth gear and only going 120 MPH. 4th gear redlines at ~ 140 MPH.

why would you need a chip if a stock FD can go up to at least 155 MPH. Need a chip... I'm not even going there.

what do you mean by leaky? do they leak oil? are you getting clouds of blue smoke? FYI leaky turbos will still pull waay past 120 MPH. Unless your turbos are completely shot.

no. you need to take it to a shop. If you think that your leaky turbos are causing your decrease in power without even looking at other suspects.

I say that you are not boosting past 5 psi. Either a boost leak or f'ed up solenoid is causing your problem. Clogged cats can also be a culprit (like some else said).

You need to really spend some time and read up these cars so you can diagnose problems intelligently. One thing is for sure your car is dog slow and it is no where near the potential of a stock FD.

How do you know your turbo's are old ??? What are your boost pressures in third gear pull, hell my car will pull 120 in third gear and as far as old turbo's mine have 97k on them with the biggest damn hole in the prespool door I've ever seen and they still make 14 psi (over all)

I agree with "montego" take your car to someone who KNOWS... When I blew a coupler and was at 0 (zero) psi of boost my FD could get up to 120+ and I know for a fact cuz I raced a Honda to see how an N/A FD would do... lol If you want suggestions on PARTS use the SEARCH function for feedback! Pretty much ALL of the popular name brands make quality parts, depending on your application. Seeing as how you're basically stock I'd say wait on the BOV until you need it and spend your money paying for your internet so you can USE the forum... That's why IT is here! To answer ALL your questions... if after searching you can't find an answer, THEN ask us.

I've got boost leaks out the *** and had no trouble getting my lightly modded, untuned FD to 120.
