Market Survey??
I was wondering if everyone could take a minute and give their opinions as
to the current state of the market. What am trying to say is that in an economy usually a item is worth what someone is willing to pay right? What is the true value in your opinions of a FD that is missing a Motor and tranny? Would you say 5K under or 7k. How about the going price for a daily driver FD 7k under or 12k? Why am ,I asking this you may ask? Well ,I see some of the ad for cars for sale and people are asking 10k for a Roller? Who is actually buying these cars? Almost every car listed is getting a price reduction due to current economic times? Are people still pricing cars based on what they were getting years ago? Just a thought but homes prices have fallen by as much as 30% in some areas? How about the FD market.Gimme me your opinions.Last time I checked they are selling a 93FD 16koriginal miles and guy is asking 15K or best offer. That seems reasonable.

Low mileage, excellent condtion 'stock' car = 18k-20k
Decently modded higher mileage, great condition= 14k-16k
High mileage, okay shape driver = 9k-12k
Roller, no engine or trans, w/ interior and title= 5k-7k
As to your comments about the economy tanking, but FD still holding their value, I have one explanation. Most FD owners are financially sound, as they are basically expensive 'toys'. So they aren't as affected by our current crisis, and don't need to 'give' their cars away for a huge loss. The only segment of FDs that are dramatically falling in price is the third one I named, the higher mileage, banged up 'drivers'. They are usually bought by those who are not as financially viable, and may have to suddenly sell. Also, rollers cost so much, because of what they are worth in parts. I would never sell one for less than $6000, because I am sure I could part it out for that.

I would have to agree with liv4psi. I would also like to point out that supra, and NSX prices arent dropping either. These 3 cars hold there value very well regardless of the market.

With the recent tightening of credit, it will be next to impossible to get loans for these cars so the price of the vast majority of FDs is probably going to head towards $5-6k or so. Rollers are already heading towards $2-$3k. Nice FDs will probably still sell in the teens, but there will be fewer and fewer of them.

Sorry, but this is crazy talk. It is clear if you spend more than a few weeks on this board that many FD owners cannot really afford these cars. Most buyers in recent years were kids with not much disposable income who got easy access to credit and who were always one apex seal away from having to sell the car. Who else is going to be looking for an eBay intercooler?

No, the 'few weeks' comment was no aimed at you - it was just an expression.
In general, the SF Bay Area market is one of the more expensive (lots of money here still, and cars do not age quickly in this climate - I once owned a 30-year-old local car with not a spot of rust).
I think it is pretty depressing where the FD market is heading because it has implications for parts availability, aftermarket support etc. I think the FD is rapidly becoming the equivalent of the Porsche 928, a cool car that only a few enthusiasts care about.

I didn't mean so much as the prices in San Franciso, but more the selection. It seems like there are alot more FDs floating around out west. I bet the climate does have a lot to do with it, they are more feasible to daily. In Ohio, you would be crazy not to have another car.

I have to agree with you. Lately by the looks of prices on these forums you have to wonder how people are still justifying these asking prices.I also look at different sites like craigslist, ebay and the asking price difference is amazing.Anyway keep the topic alive ,I think is good debate to continue.By the way ,I will have to disagree with you that the FD is going the way of the 928.The production # alone will make it a desirable car.By the way what r the production on the 928?

Just a thought to and to the topic. Now that the resale market is being over run with RX8's, do you think the price of the FD will go up or down? You can find RX8s form 9K- up. Every year that goes by their are less FD out there. What do you think?
