MAP/MOP Sensor
Can anyone provide some suggestions. My 2000 FD has been in the mechanics now for 7 months and has had both turbo's rebuilt twice and the engine rebuilt once and then pulled apart a second time to be sure there was nothing wrong...
Now it is finally all back together and error codes 26 and 27 are appearing and it appears the MAP/MOP sensor is "chucking a spaz". Why would this occur considering it was fine before .... As soon as the accel cable is pulled the car starts backfiring and so my mechanic does not wish to drive it on the street until the car is running smooth ! Any suggestions would be appreciated as I have waited long enough...7 months is way too long... Thank you in advance

Um, nah... this guy worked for mazda and his life has been dedicated to rebuilding rotaries. Rebuilt my last Rx-7 with no issues at all. Could it be a bad earth ?

do you have a powerfc??? if its the MOP thats the metering oil pump and the stepper motors sometimes go bad which will put the car into limp mode.
who rebuilt your turbos? i didnt think later model ones could be rebuilt cos they had abraidable seals????
It doesnt matter how long your mechanic has been working on rotaries for, the FD engine is very different to previous 13bs that you really need to find a mechanic that has been working on FDs.
where in Australia are you from, im from Adelaide and HIGHLY recommend REVS. they changed my OMP and its been working great ever since.

MAP and MOP are two very different elements. But they are connected by the same wiring harness.
It's very possible that your wiring harness is getting brittle and all the work under the hood has caused damage to it. There are electrical tests to do to determine if this is the problem.
If it's really brittle, then replacing the harness might be your best bet.

Ive just had a look at the code list 26/27 both these codes are for the OIL METERING PUMP (not the map sensor dont get confused),, I can honestly say 100% your car is in limp mode, start with the basics try pulling the earth cable of the battery and leaving for a minute to reset the ECU. If that doesnt work then you better start looking at the wiring to and from the oil metering pump its either damaged or not plugged in correclty, and worse case scenario is you buy a 2nd hand metering pump and swap it in (they arent expensive),, then you should be ok.

pulling the earth cable and leaving it wont do anything lol...
you also have to press the brake pedal for the ecu to be totally reset.
Better yet, borrow someones powerfc to plug in and it will tell you straight away if the OMP is dead. in the sensor screen VMOP will blink if its dead. In the meantime add a little premix in there.
If it really is dead yoru mechanic isnt going to like you at all, changing it while the engine is in the car is a complete pita. the pump was changed for later model engines too, so finding a used one might be a bit hard!!! try mrenforcer, they have a stack of 13b parts. good luck!!

Thanks guys for your assistance on this one. By the way I am in Tasmania (Australia) and so rotary experts are few and far between. The turbo's were sent to AVO , who if I am not mistaken then sent off to Garretts to rebuild. The first rebuild, they did not seal properly and leaked oil and this time around.....well I am not sure as the car has not been on the road yet !! Fingers crossed !!! Good to see there are people out there willing to help
Regards :-)
