manual rack conversion question (looped method)

hey guys, the short version, "if i wanted no power steering, quick and easy, would capping off the lines vs looping them cause any issues?"

i have searched for and could not find the answer to, i understand that one way to depower the steering is to loop the lines on the rack.

what is the purpose of actually looping the lines? i have some AN fittings on the feed and supply orifice on the rack, and id much rather cap them off than run a hose to "loop" them, if thats an option.

to get further into it i have a v8 swap with a GTO p/s pump. i am a minority even to the v8 swap world, so traditional fixes wont work for me, so id like to try the depowered/looped method since the assistance is too much at high speeds for my taste. id have to lift the motor a bit to get the rack out to actually loop the lines, but i can just cap them off in <5 minutes if that is an option. so is there an actual reason that id need to loop the lines or will i be ok?

thanks?

OH Remove PS......

You will love the car w/no power steering. Great feed back thru the steering wheel and if you still have twins they will spool up better, or should.

If you want to ever use power steering again you need the loop line. W/o the loop line you will more than likely blow the seals in the rack itself which seperates left from right. What I do when eliminating PS is to take the OEM hoses and cut em several inches up from where the connect to the rack. Then crimp some JIC hydraulic fittings on em, male on one and female on the other and hook em together. Then if you want to hook PS back up later you just need to crimp the corresponding ends on hoses and connect em all back up.

Because of less parasitic drag on the engine. One less accessory to drive. It is the same principal as a lightweight flywheel or pulleys.

And yes, I like my FD much better without PS. In our cars, it's extremely unnecessary.

Ya I had my last car power steering removed and it was alot more fun to drive.
Only drawback is hard to park in tight spots.
Other benefit including lighter engine bay less pump less fluid.

Actually more load on the engine helps spool. That's why you spool better going uphill.

Exactly my thoughts. Does anyone actually have any documented proof by doing this mod will effect turbo response?

i "looped" my line when i first removed the power steering pump. did not like the feel. mine felt "knochy" at times and made me feel unsafe. i have since replaced my rack with the manual rack from maval ( http://www.mavalgear.com/ ). Its relatively inexpensive ($200 if i remember correctly) and i love it. would never go back to power steering. there is also another option, much more pricey, which is atomic rex https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=832782 gordon can give you a review of it as he has it on his car
