Making redline BEEP louder ?
Making redline BEEP louder ?
Is there a way to make the stock redline beep louder ? Or to have the possibility to adjust the volume of the beeper ? On the track sometimes my RPM gauge is acting up and I need to rely on the beeper which is sometimes not loud enough
You could try to track down the buzzer, desolder it from whatever board it's attached to, and solder on leads to connect to a louder one, risking the circuit board and other components. Or, you could just buy an aftermarket shift light, hide it somewhere or mount it on the dash, set the rpm, and hook up the output wire to a louder piezo buzzer.
I wouldn't worry about it too much. As you get used to tracking the car, you'll "just know" when to shift from feeling the car and hearing the engine.
I don't think I've heard mine since my car was stock years ago.

Yea... but still. I'd like to do that. And most likely will if I can find the little bugger
Although my passengers are usually my shift "beepers" on the track. Whey they scream its either time to shift or prepare for braking

Adding a shift light or another beeper would just add more weight and unnecessary wiring. You should be able to find the location of the shift alarm somewhere in the factory service manual, there's a copy of it at www.iluvmyrx7.com in the downloads section.

Please don't put words in my mouth, or take them out either:
For most people, the unnecessary wiring would be the major drawback. The average enthusiast simply isn't good at that kind of thing.
re: weight. A good way to remove a pound is to remove an ounce from sixteen different places. Adding HP only helps when you're at full throttle, reducing weight helps all the time.

^ i might be able to give you the wiring "drawback" argument. However, there are plenty of other places where weight can be reduced before I would worry about the wiring in the car.
IMO a beeper is useless at the track. You've got a helmet, wind noise, open windows, etc., etc. You're better off buying or making a small shift light and mounting it where you need it.
Artofwar - things you mentioned dont apply overhere. We just rent a track and run without helmets with closed windows.
Anyways, I think I may have found the little bugger. Anyone cares to check the "RX7 BODY b.pdf" file, page 2-E15, part number 55-255C. It says its a "warning unit" and its mounted directly behind the tach.
Do we have a winner ?

I don't know why you would be hitting redline on street so you might as well just turn it up as a permanent thing. I never take my car to redline anyways, I just don't like the idea, I take it 500 below. Besides redline is cool and all but you will get more speed by shifting slightly earlier since the gear will push more then the already winding out gear you were just in. But in track events you cant really do anything about being in redline sometimes. Anyways, that volume on the stock shift alarm is a great idea. I'm sure its right there with the gauge's. If you take the hood assembly apart and remove everything just like you were going to lineralize the temp gauge it will be there somewhere. I say just find a way to hook it up to the driver door speaker or something so you can hear it on your side only. that way you cant miss it. I guess you just have to toy with different configurations and settings so you can find a good way of doing it. Good luck with whatever route you choose to go with.
