I never had my air pump in but.....I do NOT think it's true that you can NOT retain the air pump. There is a big space there so I don't see what the problem would be. You should call Jason back and ask why he is saying that. Maybe the pipe that goes to the intercooler hits the top of it; that's the only thing I can think of. Or better yet, call M2 directly.

I have the large too and it fit fine with my stock hood+liner and now the Scoot hood replica.
DavidDeco- Did you use the rain plates and a strut bar too? Did you have to do any cutting? I'm somewhat tempted to get the scoot hood replica.. but I want a M2 smic large or med. thanks alot.

But they are nearly identical, "legal" issues aside no?

That is exactly why it does not work on a large. Medium M2 ic works with the airpump, or at least the ones that I have seen do.

My large M2 ic is....well....large That sucker is huge and you will have to relocate the battery (not a big deal) and get rid of the intake box. After that the pipe going from the turbos to the intercooler was too tall so I ended up cutting about 1/4 of an inch off the bottom to get it in there under the strut bar. Other than that the intake duct that runs to the intercooler - it fits like crap so plan on doing something to make it work better.

Don't Bother calling M2 w/ intercooler questions - they are no longer in the RX-7 IC production businesss (actually they, M2, only marketed them they were fabricated by someone else) - Kevin Wynum has taken back the production of the IC's formerly produced under the M2 Label. They both (med & large) were orig. desinged & produced under the ASP label by Kevin.

Well, I was able to get my M2 large to fit with the airpump, so the M2 medium will sure as hell fit .

Cool Air does fit

I had both M2 SMIC with the air pump on and the stock turbo set up. Now as far as I know the only single turbo set up that will allow you to keep your air pump is the HKS TO4E not the one from XS Egineering.

Well, there you have it. There are several people who installed the M2 med and large SMIC while retaining the air/smog pump.
