M2 Large SMIC / Greddy Elbow: Cold Side Piping

For those of you with this setup, do you think that I could use this 2.75in "S" bend from CXRacing for my cold side piping to the greddy elbow? http://www.cxracing.com/mm5/merchant...ry_Code=PIP275

The item details say the pipe is 18in in length. I am not sure if there measurement is line A or the overall length of line Z. If you have the original M2 pipes, can you please measure A, B, C and Z on for reference while I'm waiting on my I/C and elbow to arrive (not including pipes)?

Also, is your pipe a straight "S" (bend on the same plane) or is there some special offset required to mate the M2 Large SMIC to the Greddy Elbow?

Lastly, can you please measure D while your in there? I just need the straight shot distance from the IC inlet to the center of the ypipe couplers.

Thanks

You probably won't find "off the shelf" parts that will work w/o modification. I tried to do that on my M2 Large and eventually wound up using it in a V-Mount setup.

What, specifically did you try?

Also, since M2 is no longer with us, does anyone else retail the asp/m2 large smic
kit?

I have almost the exact same setup: original M2 large racing IC, original M2 CF CAI with hardpipes, original M2 hot & cold side IC pipes, Greddy elbow, same Cusco strut bar and my couplers are even the same blue color (I know, so what?). Just got back from the garage, here ya go:
A = 10.5"
B = 9.5"
C = 2.75"
d = 12.75"
Z = 11.0'
All measurements are to the center of pipes and to the ends of the IC pipes & elbow pipes. Measurements are probably within 0.5" (best I can do without disassembling everything-Bill

Thanks!!!! Obvisouly the cx pipe is too long as is. Maybe it's worth cutting and rewelding to shorten. Did you notice if the 2 bends that make the S are bent on the same plane?

Sure thing. I just noticed that I did not answer your 2nd question. The IC is actually lower than the greddy elbow due to the slope of the hood. The last joint of the cold side pipe (closest to the IC) looks like it bends slightly downhill towards the IC (overall diff. in height approx. 1" from greddy elbow to IC, measured with a level). I also noticed my A-B-C right triangle measurements were slightly off- change measurement A to 10" . I would also go slightly shorter on the pipe length since you have 4 places to fudge on either side of the 2 cold side couplers. Good luck!

Has anyone ever just used 2 45* couplers and an ~8" straight pipe here?

Thought about this again and sketched in out in 2D. This would only work if triangle A-B-C was equilateral (B=C).

Okay, can anyone measure the angle of the 2 bends on line Z?

Bend Closest to Elbow: ___
Bend Closest to Intercooler: ___

Are you saying you were overlapping the greddy and intercooler hardware?

Do you have a pic? I am not familiar with the 2 piece greddy hardware.

^^ NO overlap. Measurements were to IC & greddy hardware (within approx. 0.5").

Why not just have a shop make you a pipe? I've had piping made before and that small piece should cost no more than $50 max.

Of course this is an option. Car is not driveable. Until I can spec out the dimensions I cannot send this out for production/fabrication. This thread is

My angles don't look exactly like the photo but I do have an M2 large IC & greddy elbow. I thought I had original M2 hardpipes but maybe mine or the ones in the photo are not original M2. Anyways here are my angles: angle closest to greddy elbow is damn near 90deg and closest to IC is approx 130 deg on the left side of the red "Z" line drawn in the photo.

My wife thought I was crazy for doing this but I made a paper cutout from your drawing and placed it over my setup-here's what I found out: I would decrease the 32 deg bend down to something more like 20 to 22deg. You might want to shorten the 6.73" and lengthen the IC tail just to make it easier to fasten the coupler (I think it might be a little difficult to clamp & get a good seal that close to a bend in the pipe). Don't forget the pipe bends downwards at the IC. I was also wondering if the difference between my 90deg bend & the bend in the photo might have something to do with AC & PS pump clearance-do you still have them? It looks like they're still installed in the photo but I got rid of my AC & PS so I can't really tell if it's going to be an issue for you. Good luck.

Could be, but the M2/ASP Large are made by 2Dperformance now I believe. Damien and GooRoo's company.

Confirmed with Pettit that the kits have compatible pipes and ordered the cold side S-Bend pipe for ~$150. Also, I'll be rigging up a strictly silicone hot side from the USDM Y Pipe with:

1) 90* elbow 2.75in ID
2) 12" straight coupler 2.75in ID
3) Steel Joiner 2.75in ID
4) 4 T-Bolt Clamps

This package runs ~$75 from siliconeintakes.com vs the aluminum Pettit with would have been another ~$150. Note this silicone setup creates a straight shot from the y pipe to the intercooler and may not work with cars still running air pumps.

Pettit pipe doesn't fit. Looks like to would need to hack the SMIC outlet. Instead 2 90* bends might prove to work if the length are adjusted. See picture.

Can you hack the pipe instead?

interesting the M2 outlet is rather long. I have a godspeed SMIC and ordered the pettit pipe and it fit perfectly.

Here's what I got so far. Some of the pipes are a little right kinked now because the intercooler has protective cardboard on it putting it closer to the firewall than normal.
