I'm pretty sure they got SCCA approval on the roll bar, so it should be cool for Solo 1, and I think someone else said it's cool for NASA... who doesn't like it?

ptrhan,
I thought I remember reading that before in the racetech forum. Let me see if I can find it. Maybe it's an old rule? If so that great by me!

I have the M2 bar. It's a very good quality unit that doesn't obstruct vision (I'm 5'11") or impede driver movement. If you get the diagonal bar then the passenger will lose approximately 1.5-2" of seat travel.

Looks like the M2 is the best you can get if ya got the money, but it seems like there's rumors of it not being SCCA-legal, and I hate limit myself there. Unfortunately the stupid SCCA makes you buy the rulebook, so I can't find anything other than rumors about it.
They're not rumors, at least if you plan on going wheel-to-wheel racing or SOLO I. I've the rule books and have checked into this extensively, including discussion with SCCA racing tech inspectors. In short, for autocross, the bar is legal (of course, you don't even need a bar). For SOLO I, some regions will let you use the bar (NMW will in my case). Many won't. For Showroom stock or any other type of SCCA racing the M2 bar is not legal. In fact, for other organizations (like NASA) the bar isn't legal either. It meets the minimum diameter thickness requirements and material, but you need to have a 6 point with side protection (and a way to mount a window net). M2 can make a 6 point, but as of about a month ago, they weren't offering side impact protection braces as an option.
BTW- Bolt-in bars are SCCA legal as long as mounting plates and the proper hardware are used.

I wholeheartedly agree with Artowar's comments above.
I've had my full rollbar for a bit over a month now and will finally get a chance to install it soon. I will be posting up a full review, including pics soon.

Glad to see Larry making these again and having them back on the market!

I don't race, and am not trying to build a dedicated track car. My FD sees (at least is used to see ) track days and non-daily driver use. Larry's bar is exactly what I wanted for how I use the car. If I could justify a dedicated track car, then I would buy a spec Miata or a Radical or something similar-- in other words, a car that is more current and active in amateur racing. That would open up many more track-based options.

Looks like I'm in for a custom bar then. I can't stomach adding 60 lbs of steel bar to a car that I spend time removing the @#%& rear wiper from. I'll never wheel to wheel race the car and don't give a hang about autocross, but a time trial (NASA or Solo 1) might be nice.
I guess i'll have a chromolly Autopower replica made by Mitch Piper.

Upon further review... It looks from the rules as though you could run a NASA IT event (a time trial like Solo 1) with the M2 bar... It's a little vague, but only stipulates a roll "bar" rather than 6 pt. cage. the strut mounting doesn't seem to be an issue, but the bends in the rear braces might be. For actual NASA road racing, you need a 6 pt. anyway.
From Gene's post, for Solo 1 (SCCA), it might be down to your regional inspector... Gene ran them... And Larry @ raceshop told me they did get some sort of SCCA approval.

for a standard four point install, do you just wrap and secure the lines to the rear bar or do you moun a plat in the trunk. i'd still like to use my little devider behind the seats.
