Angry M2 airbox???

Okay, so I've had an airbox on order from M2 for over 2 months (since the first week of April!) I knew that their customer service sucked before I ordered, but this is ridiculous!!! Every time I call they give me another excuse as to why the shop hasn't finished the order yet! At this rate I won't have my airbox until halfway through December! Of course my 7 will be on jackstands by then and it'll be too cold to install it anyways.

Anyways, they have told me that there are 8 other people that are waiting on airboxes as well, and I was just wondering if they were here and if they were as frustrated as me. Are they giving you the runaround as well? Now I know why the RX7 Store won't carry their products anymore. [/Rant off]

PS - If anybody has a used cold air box (M2, Arc, or otherwise) that they are going to be selling, I would seriously consider buying it if I could have it soon.

You can get an aluminum "cold air" box from rx7fashion. It's very well made and fits better than the M2 box anyway.

chuck at rotary extreme makes a polished airbox. it look similar to his vmount air box. i cant decide if i want the M2 or chucks. but since 8 people are in line, guess ill have to order the polished one. chuck quoted me450 shipped. his box is a slightly better design. has beaded welds and the filters are spaced so no smashing and falling off like the M2. but first i need someone to buy my intake on ebay!

they pulled the same thing with me when I ordered my down pipe from them a two years ago. They always had some excuse as to why it hadn't shipped yet.

Seems everyone's got a bitch with one supplier or another. I've been doing business with M2 for years, and have never had a problem. I have their ic, cf intake, downpipe and until I went to the PowerFC their ECU. I ordered springs from them Wednesday last week and had them on Monday. Maybe it helps that I live an hours drive from them, and go pick up my stuff.

Crikey! $400 for an *aluminum* intake? Jeez. I'm all for good fitment, but it's not even CF. Aluminum is dirt *** cheap to buy, and it's pretty easy to work with. That's a retarded price for that box.

Look at what Pettit sells for the same price and see if you think the rx7fashion box is a rip-off. The HKS and Blitz open air intakes are about $350 from the rx7store. I don't think it's a rip-off compared to any other rx7 part.

It also fits a lot better than the M2, is cheaper, and you actually get one when you order one!

I have the rx7fashion box and it is nice...

I have never seen the other boxes in person but I know people swear by the M2 CF one...

Beside the beads to help hold the hoses and airfilter on...the rx7fashion sits lower so no hood rubbing issues...

whoops...and a couple more things.

another pro:
1) one of the few CAI that works with some FMIC

Cons:
1) I did have some fitment issues but I have a koyo

2) I wish the sleeve fit lower past the radiator shroud (search for Zerobangers thread)....this allows hot air into the box when the fans come on unless you block them. I have seen the rotary extreme box whose sleeve extends farther down...

I guess I stand corrected. Been thinking about intakes, and if this is as good as it gets, I guess RX7Fashion gets my vote (i'm boycotting M2 for now).

that sounds more like it I've had a rx7fashion box for nearly 4 years...I think it's the best out there.. As for m2 in my opinion the M2 older boxes (Al) are better then the new CF ones... I have not seen a CF box that fit well...especially the Cf lid..

They've been telling me that for four weeks. I wish I would have started this thread back in April; I would have ordered a different airbox! I'll call RX7 Fashion today and see what they offer. Thanks for all the sympathy

I got my aluminum M2 box in a week after ordering it from M2. It is a very nice piece, and fit perfectly. The filters are not smashed, and do not fall off. I do not see how they could when properly hose clamped in place. Maybe you got one that was not manufactured correctly - maybe the jig got misaligned?

I am sure the rx7fashion and others mentioned are also nice pieces, but I have not had any experience with them. I also do not see how they could fit better than the M2 one. Maybe they all fit equally as well, but the M2 aso fits great.

The carbon fiber ones look nice as well, and would probably be lighter. But aluminum can be polished (bling-bling :-)

I did have one issue with ordering form M2 - I ordered their rear anti-away bar end links and didn't receive them with the rest of my order. I assumed they were back ordered and would be sent separately. A couple of months later (this was winter so the car wasn't going outdoors anyway) I called them back, and they claimed not to have taken an order for that, and that they did not sell them separately from a coil-over kit. I think the sales guy was trying to be helpful and took an order for them, and then someone overruled him since they didn't want to sell them separately. They could have just called me and told me that instead of letting me hang for months.

Cheers,

Steve

I'll be designing an aluminum intake close to the m2, and more than likely be selling it for a bit cheaper.. If anybody wants to wait a bit for the design to get fab'd, let me know...

I waited a month for my M2 CF intake and 4 months for my M2 IC. Trust me on this, they are worth the wait and look very good in the engine compartment. They also work great.

The pettit ones look like crap.

Keep in mind that the M2 box, Rx7 fasion box and Rotary extreme box are all the same with a few minor changes.

Chuck designed the box, M2 and Rx7fasions were based on chucks design. M2 made a carbon fiber lid (I dont think the entire box is C/F, but I may be wrong on that). Rx7fasion had the exact desing as M2 originaly, but they realized it was too tall to work with aftermarket hoods so they made it shorter. Any fitament problem you have with a KOYO and rx7fashion box will be worse with the M2 box.

I think you got this one backwards. M2 was making an Aluminum box that Chuck/Rx7Fashion got the motivation from to make one. The "original Chuck/Rx7Fashion box" was a POS but the one Rx7Fasion sells now is much better - it looks like almost an exact copy of the M2 box by appearance, both fit well and work.

I will try to get pictures of my "old 1999 vintage Chuck/Rx7F box" that I bought based off of web site pictures that showed a box similar to M2's but for $400 and advertised as a quality product. Filters couldn't fit w/o being smashed, the pieces that connect the intake pipes to the box and filter where not even tacked welded to the box, screws for lid used two threads in top of box that quickly striped, misaligned fitting for air bypass so hose would hit air pump (Chuck's answer was to overnight me a copper/plumber's s-shaped fitting with a short piece of hose which came 7 days later). I kept that box for a year or so and sold it for $200 to get a $450 M2 box like I should have in the first place.

Really, Im almost 100 pct sure its chucks design. And the rx7fasion box is not as tall as the M2.
