LS1 Vs. Fd for lots of money
A guy I work with has an automatic hardtop 99 z-28. We each talk **** to each other and he thinks he can take me. His car is stock. Mine has Racing beat catback and downpipe, and if I need to i'll buy an apex power intake. Mine is a 93 r1. You guys think I can take him from a light. I know i can take him exit to exit or on the curves.

i wouldn't do it for money. z-28 has i think 275 and a **** load of torque he'll jump you off the line but you will catch up down the road though. I don't know it'd be a good race.

If you really want to race him, race him from a roll and I would say you will take him with the intake.
Just my 2 cents...

Z28's are not that fast, I dont know why most people on this thread think they are. I kill Z06's One dipshit kid tried racing me in his new SS and I killed him too. You should definetly be able to kick his ***,but get the intake for that added insurance also

The ls1 is very cheap and easy to mod with simple bolt on Catback Intake and MAF is enough for low 13.
If he has a torque comverter he will eat you.
trust me.
All said and done if I had to sell one Id keep the 7.
94 Silver Touring RX7 Stock
98 LS1 Trans-AM Mildly Modded
89 V-MAX

if he's stock, get the intake and race him... make sure its a predetermined length however, and not a race where he can claim victory after 500 feet... pic a spot and maybe even measure out atleast a 1/4 mile, because with his auto he'll stomp you the first 1/8 mile anyways, but then youll probably have him at the end of the 1/4.... just dont **** up your launch, or then you almost can kiss that $ goodbye

A stock 99 auto shouldn't be a problem. If you know how to race good, take his money. If you barley know how to race, it will be close. Get the intake, it will help alot and defiantly practice your launches.

i would watch out for him. auto he can get a good launch and not miss shifts. ls-1 are not to be taken lightly. they dyno 300 to the ground stock chevy underrates them. the ss is said to have i believe 325 bhp but a friend jsut got one and dynoed that to the ground. i know its just a z-28 not a ss but its still fast. you should be able to pull him in a 1/4 but like the other guy said make sure its not no 1/8th mile race. tell him to race like a man and go a 1/4.

you ever raced your car before... i mean taken it out to the track? if you've never raced your car on a track before, then i wouldn't race anyone at all. me, my best race was with a viper gts and he finally caught up after 130 mph... remember it's a short distance, take advantage of the quickness of the car, but like i said if you've never raced on a track before or at least get your car in the low 13's or 12's, don't bother... but race him anyways, if you have $500 to throw away, why not... good luck. oh put some drag radials on (D.O.T. approved), otherwise you'll spin all the way through 3rd on the street.

ls1s are quick, and auto leaves little room for error. A slong as you have a good lauch you should take him by 60-70. that is my experience from back when all I had was a dp cb and drop in.

what you describe is more than enough...despite what the majority think the z28 isn't as fast as it's made out to be. With just a downpipe and a neat launch you should dust his *** pretty well. Just make sure he doesn't have any nitrous...very cheap and easy to get
