lower winshield grille

Anybody tried to remove the plastic grille from below the windshield
Wanted to remove it myself to prevent it from being broken by the glass shop.
Is there a trick to removing the round plastic plugs, without destroying the grille ?

Jack

That part lists for about $250, don't destroy it.

You have to pop off all of those little black covers along it. I used a little knife. there are screws under that will allow you to get it off.

I would say that if you aren't 100% sure how to take it off, let them take a shot at it and if they do crack it/break it they will have to replace it.

FWIW, I found out that once removed, some of the plugs might not be as tight as they once were, especially when it gets cold. When you put them back on, use a small amount of silicone adhesive caulk so they don't come back off and get lost.

I removed mine w/o many problems. Took it off to remove the wipers and the major issue was getting the rubber out of the way. Only took a few extra minutes to get it back together. Silicon is a good idea to reassemble.

It's easy to take off and if it's faded quite a bit and turned from black to dull gray, just spray it with some duplicolor truck bed liner and it'll look like new. I did this to mine about a year ago and it's holding up perfectly and looks much better. I also sprayed the front lip as well.
