Low Idle and Lots of Backfire, HelP!

OK, it sounds like to me I need new spark plugs, but I want some opinions.
It is idling really low(like 850 rps) and its backfiring alot in first and second gear. It also hesitates in first because of the low idle I believe. Gimme some opinions...

850 rpm is what the car is supposed to idle at. Change your plugs and let us know.

Yeah, 750 rpms is what it says in the manual, so 850 i think is alright..

Upgraded Hks SL Intercooler, Greddy manifold, intake, hks superdrager exhaust, ACT clutch, thats about it. Its revving really low, to the point where it almost stalls, i said 850, but i looked at it again and its soo low it scares me. Ill check MAP sensor, but i dont think thats it. Also, any tips on changing the plugs? Thanks guys.

I was thinking something like tuning but you still have the stock ECU. If you plan on going with more mods maybe get all trailing plugs.. they should be 9s, the leadings would be 7s.

Does your car have trouble starting? That, with low idle might just mean a blown apex...trust me I know. I blew one in september and heard all kinds of shady diagnosis (everyting from water in the fuel to bad plug wires)...check the little things like plugs of course...but check your compression levels too. It might be bad news. Did you hear what Ari Yallon calls the "you lose buzzer" when driving recently? It sounds like a gear grind but without the feel...if so, that my friend was your apex seal.

There are so many variables that any price anyone gives you will be a guess. It could be a minor rebuild. Or if your appex seals decided to be bad they may have damaged your rotor housing and Turbo impeller.
My advice change the plugs & do a compression test.

Oh.. the sound you are hearing... might be a check valve backwards... check all of the valves and make sure they are going the right direction. *crossing fingers it's not a seal*

OK, it seems like good news, the sound I heard was my tire rubbing when i took a sharp turn( my back tires are ridiculously wide and they rub if i take a turn to fast) Everything returned to almost normal today after i soft reset(key on key off) Idle was fine, but i backfired a little more than normal so im still guessing its the spark plugs. Im changing them tomorrow so hopefully its all good. This is a little off subject, but what kind of HP do you thing a chipped 92 Porsche 968 is pushing??

well it turns out that I was running too rich, causing more build up in my plugs. The clutch switch also needed to be replaced or reset or something. While its been at my mechanic, I had them look at my A/C and stuff. Gonna run her tomorrow if i get it back and ill give u guys my times and tell ya how its runnin. Thanks guys.

  • 1/4 mile times-long story

ok, so heres the deal, i get the car back and its running great. really strong and pulling soo hard in second its great. Well its about 5 mins till we head out to the track in a caravan of cars and i cant put the damn thing in reverse, or 5th. So i drove like 150 miles today in 4th gear. Anyone know why i wouldnt be able to put the shifter in 5th or reverse???

thats what i was guessing, but why cant i put it in reverse? I gave up and broght it in to get it fixed. Can i say it again, I LOVE A/C I LOVE A/C I LOVE A/C I LOVE A/C I LOVE A/C. THis is the first car ive had that has a working A/C.Now i feel cuz out of My dads cars (74' jensen-has it, doesnt work, 62' dodge polara 500-yeah, right) and my old car(rainy day car) the 91' lebaron, the Rex is the only one that has it working. That gets my dad almost as mad as when i told him my engine the size of a pony keg can spank the 440ci 4 barrel carbed Jensen and the the 386 in his dodge. Im a BAAAAAAD MMMAAAAAAAN, lol.
