Loud whistling when second turbo kicks in?
Hi all,
Have asked this on our club forum but thought i'd ask here as well.
Whenever my second turbo spools up I get a loud whistling noise, I'm not talking about a spooling up noise as it's constant while the turbo is spinning and is quite loud. The turbo isn't make full boost either.
I've had the following suggested to me:
1. Dodgy wastegate
2. Dodgy turbo and turbine/wheel/whatever is scraping the outside wall of the turbo
3. There's an air leak somewhere in the system.
Any other thoughts? I'm not fixing it until later this year as I'm rebuilding but just wondered what people think it might be?
Cheers

Is the door in the y-pipe opening to allow the secondary boost to come on with the primary boost? I would thisnk this would cause a whistling noise if it was only partially moving or perhaps barely opening at all.

Whistling around a metal gasket makes sense, not many on the intake side, would only take 5-10 minutes to check and tighten it all.

Thanks all, hopefully checking next week sometime. I have boost on the second turbo it just can't reach what the primary does so I have more like 0.8-0.5-0.6 bar.
As I say just trying to keep her running till the rebuild but it's a little annoying
