**Please Read**

I just got my new FD from a friend of my uncles. He sold it cheap because the dealer told him he fried his new motor, only 20,000 miles. Well I was just checking over the coolant system before sending it to Dee and I noticed something wierd. The system does lose some coolant, but when I was looking around I saw a cap laying in a hole. It was a filler neck cap I believe. It was flat and looked like my old one. The kicker is from what I can remember they are supposed to be only flat, and the ast cap has a spring like cap. Well if I am right, then the cap on the filler neck is WRONG, because it too has the spring like think just like the ast. So can anyone tell me if I am right, and maybe it is loosing coolant because it is loosing pressure because the idiots at the dealer put the wrong cap on? Thanks in advance.

The filler neck cap does not have a spring on it, while the ast cap does.

Try it, it’s only a 6 buck cap.

Your filler neck cap shouldn't, as it has nothing to vent. Also, it should be a *pressure* spring, not thermostatic.

A cap is worth a try but a pressure test would answer the question better. If you don't have a pressure tester, they're cheap or I think (not sure) Auto Zone will loan/rent you one.

Just wanted to re-confirm, the filler neck cap has NO spring. I just ordered one last week. Only the AST,(if you use one) should have the cap with the spring.

It really shoudnt matter that it has a spring on the filler neck. With the spring at a certain pressure the cap will allow coolant to flow into the overflow resivor. With no nipple to allow the coolant to leave nothing should happen. I agree with the pressure test.

Man I ran all around town to three different autozones till I found one that had a tester I could rent. Got back home and the damn fitting wouldn't fit around the filler neck I have to get another one tomorrow.
