Is the metal nipple loose, or the hose itself?

If it's the hose, replace the hose and clamp with pieces from Mazda. If it's the nipple, I'd pull the t-stat housing and JB Weld the nipple back in place. Then rent a coolant pressure tester from Advance or Autozone and pressure test the system. Or you could buy a new t-stat housing off the classifieds for not much $$.

The 1/4 NPT fitting could work also but you'll need to use sealant and make sure there is enough metal that it won't crack the housing.

I take coolant leaks very seriously. It's worth the effort.
